For many of us, summer vacation brings up memories of carefree days. But for many children in our community, summer will not be carefree. Over 52% of the children in YadkinCounty receive free or reduced-price lunches at school. When school is not in session, these children lose access to that nutritious meal. For that reason, during the summer families who are food insecure are in greater need of food assistance.

Lowes Foods, Kraft Foods, Allegacy Federal Credit Unionand WXII have partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC in the Bag Childhood Hunger food and funds drive. During the month of June, food donations may be made at any Lowes Food location. Financial donations can be made on-line at:

On Friday, June 24, WXII will be live on location at the Yadkinville Lowes Foods location for the morning and evening news broadcast.
