Purpose of Job

Business in the Community’s Head of Digital will lead the development and delivery of BITC’s digital strategy. Reporting to the Head of Media and working closely with the Head of Marketing, you will also lead the digital team, managing three members of staff. The role will focus heavily on ensuring that BITC’s digital channels reflect the overall editorial and content strategy. During the first year the role will also involve managing key website projects, including the upgrade of the website to Drupal 8, implementing a new information architecture for the website, and creating a new way to communicate our regional activity.

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

Digital strategy

·  In consultation with a wide range of colleagues and external stakeholders, develop BITC’s digital strategy and oversee successful implementation

·  Ensure that all digital projects across BITC contribute to the agreed digital strategy and adhere to the brand

·  Develop a strategic approach to the use of social media and work with relevant internal stakeholders to implement the strategy

·  Develop and implement a digital content strategy for BITC, focussed on achieving our core objectives

·  Ensure that BITC makes relevant use of current and emerging digital technologies, when relevant

Delivery

·  Be responsible for the development and management of BITC’s website

·  Develop the organisation’s use of digital marketing techniques, including e-marketing and search marketing

·  Edit and create website copy, visuals and other content

·  Create concepts and layouts for engaging webpages

·  Ensure legal and regulatory compliance with regards to privacy, data protection, rights management and copyright

·  Ensure compliance with best practice with regards to UX and accessibility guidelines

Stakeholder management

·  Provide leadership and guidance to ensure that staff are actively engaged in the digital strategy and able to deliver it for their teams

·  Support and advise teams on their own communications plans and the best ways in which digital communications can help achieve their objectives

·  Represent BITC at events and in meetings, engaging and supporting members

·  Support digital team managers to manage and prioritise their workflow

Project management

·  Manage digital agencies in the development of web and other digital projects

·  Write strategic and technical briefs for agencies, managing their delivery and ensuring projects are delivered

·  Manage the ongoing maintenance of the BITC website, and the associated budget

·  Lead, inspire and motivate staff to achieve results, providing for the development needs of staff within the team.

·  Ensure that work delivered and behaviour of teams are in keeping with our vision and values.

·  Contribute to the overall effective management of the organisation, delivering optimal performance in relation to operational standards, financial budget, customer service and people management.

·  Ensure that health and safety requirements are met in the areas for which the jobholder is responsible.

Person Specification

Knowledge / ·  Knowledge of or interest in responsible business issues would be beneficial
·  Knowledge of digital trends and best practice in digital communication is essential
·  Understanding of best practice in website usability, user experience, and accessibility is essential
Understanding of communications and marketing and creating content relevant to different audiences would be beneficial
Experience / ·  Solid experience of managing digital projects, including developing new websites, social media campaigns, and digital marketing campaigns
·  Managing complex projects
·  Managing agencies
·  Managing internal and external stakeholders

·  Analytical and problem solving
·  Experience of writing and editing high-quality and engaging copy for websites and other digital channels is essential

·  Experience of using tools such as Google Webmaster, Analytics and Adwords would be essential
