ABC-CLIO Launches Video Learning Modules at NCSS

Multimedia content is developed by experts to promote complex thinking in the classroom

Santa Barbara, Calif.(Nov. 21, 2014) –ABC-CLIO Solutions, an award-winning digital curriculum resource, launches Course Essentials video learning modules for its learning databases at the 94th National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Annual Conference in Boston, Nov. 21-23. Formulated with the help of leading educators, the modules are designed to make complex concepts more digestible for the benefit of all learners.

ABC-CLIO is one of the first publishers in the education industry to create comprehensive video modules with direct instruction from key faculty. The modules are professionally produced and include supplemental resources to expand students’ understanding of social studies, science, and English language arts topics.

“As districts are shifting towards higher levels of digital content, multimedia has huge potential to positively impact the classroom,” said Becky Snyder, ABC-CLIO President. “ABC-CLIO’s Course Essentials video learning modules are the result of three years of pedagogical research so that teachers can use them to help their students through pacing, personalized instruction, and the development of deep, analytical thinking, while facilitating learning 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

Each Course Essentials module contains a series of pioneering videos presented by subject-area experts and supplemented with instructional scaffolding resources such as outlines, key vocabulary, and transcripts. The videos are ideal for flipped and blending learning environments, and are built from the Common Core State Standards.

“Course Essentials video modules combined with the text-to-speech feature, vocabulary lists, outlines, and transcripts provide teachers and students authoritative and relevant resources necessary to connect to history,” said Lex Anne Seifert, MLS, middle school language arts teacher in Dallas, Texas. “These resources support educators responsible for teaching to all students' learning styles, including those with individual learning needs.”

According to the 2014 Speak Up National Research Project, 72 percent of principals feel that digital content used effectively within instruction increases student engagement, and 69 percent of principals use student engagement to measure the success of technology initiatives. Furthermore, 63 percent of principals surveyed indicated that the ability to take learning outside of the classroom is a significant benefit of videos and other digital content. Course Essentials provides the engaging digital content educators are looking for in their classrooms.

The NCSS Annual Conference is the world's largest and most comprehensive social studies professional development conference. More than 3,000 educators from across the U.S. and around the world will be on hand to share the most current knowledge, ideas, and research, and expertise in social studies education.
