JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:Playleader

Employed by: Abbeydale Playgroup

Accountable to: Committee

Line Manager:Chairperson

Responsibilities and duties

The Playleader is expected to be able to perform any of the duties required of the other staff – leading by example. In addition, the Playleader has overall responsibility for the safety and welfare of the children, and for the efficient day to day operation of the playgroup. The Playleader is the link person between the committee, the parents and the staff. Confidentiality and professionalism are expected at all times.

Administrative duties

  • To ensure relevant records are properly maintained including daily registration and accident book details and ensuring that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented.
  • To understand and implement planning, assessment and record-keeping procedures

Staff duties

  • To act as team manager – encouraging the staff to work effectively as part of a united team (aiming to deal with any staff issues ‘in house’; informing Chair as appropriate)
  • Ensure staff appraisals are carried out annually.
  • Carry out monthly supervision meetings
  • To make time available on a daily basis to discuss the day to day running of the group with fellow members of staff
  • To chair regular staff meetings (involving Chair or reporting back afterwards) and maintain written evidence
  • To attend committee meetings as requested and / or provide a report
  • To ensure that all staff have an understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage for pre-school provision, and that they operate within its requirements
  • To attend relevant training yourself, and to identify and act upon the training needs of staff (by way of staff development reviews / annual appraisals: involve Chair as desired)
  • To keep up to date with the latest ideas in childcare through courses, meeting

and relevant publications, and disseminate relevant information to staff- To attend update training for First Aid and Child Protection and Food Hygiene as necessary

  • Responsible for induction of staff, students and volunteers

Duties towards the children

  • To ensure that the care and education of the children meets the welfare requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage
  • To organise a wide range of stimulating activities throughout the session, including play to promote positive attitudes and equal opportunities
  • To challenge all forms of discrimination
  • To ensure that children are supervised at all times, indoors and outdoors, ensuring a correct adult to child ratio
  • To observe children and use these observations to inform planning
  • To be aware of the differing needs of a wide range of children and to be able to meet those needs: to assist / direct junior staff in doing the same
  • To ensure that unacceptable behaviour is dealt with in accordance with the procedures and rules of the setting
  • To encourage positive behaviour in children
  • Engage in interactive play with the children

Other duties

  • To arrive in time to set up the day's activities before opening and stay to clear up after the session
  • To ensure that equipment and premises are kept in good order and regular risk assessments carried out(including Fire drills practiced regularly)
  • To ensure that all visitors are welcomed and students in the group supported
  • To communicate with parents and carers in a positive manner and encourage parental involvement in the sessions.
  • To contribute to and implement and work within the setting's policies and procedures, ensuring the rest of the team also follow this.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Chair/Management Committee
  • To liaise with the management committee on a regular basis
