ABB introduces new palletizing robot

The Interpack fair in Dusseldorf – April 21 through 27 – will see the launch of ABB's IRB 660, a brand new, dedicated palletizing robot.

The robot features an advanced, cost-efficient 4-axis design. Customers can look forward to a speedy machine that combines a 3.15 meter reach with a 250 kg payload, which makes it ideal for palletizing bags, boxes, crates, bottles and more.

Thanks to the IRB 660, ABB remains the sole global supplier of complete robot-based packaging line automation, including picking, packing and palletizing.

Faster, longer, stronger

The IRB 660 is considerably faster than its predecessor. In addition, its optimized motor power and motion performance ensure significantly shorter cycle times than competing products. The palletizer, with its long reach, can service up to four in-feed conveyors, two pallet stacks, one slip-sheet stack and four palletizing out-feeding lines.

The IRB 660 comes in a high-speed version capable of handling 180 kg payloads at full speed, and as a 250 kg reduced speed robot.

Built for productivity

All cables for power, signals, buses and air are assembled inside the robot.

Naturally, the internal cabling is designed to keep wear and tear down to a minimum.

Moreover, IP 67 tightness means that the entire robot is built for really harsh, dusty environments. Ultimately, this is a machine that's robust enough to ensure extra lengthy service intervals!

"Now it really is complete" is product manager Klas Bengtsson's emphatic summary of the ABB packaging offer. Below are the specifics:

The IRB 340, the fastest picker on the planet, which is specially designed for high-speed primary packing. And this year's launch of the IRB 260, a 4-axis, aluminum-arm case packer, in order to complement an already extensive range. Then add the custom-designed palletizing robot IRB 660 to cover all the needs of integrators and end-users. And finally, with the company's comprehensive packaging line software package – a common picking, packing and palletizing platform for all our robots – it's easy to see why ABB has added another dimension to one-stop-shopping.
