AAUW November Program ~ New Leaders’ Reflections and Suggestions
Tues. November 12
A very inquisitive crowd appeared in the Sonnetag Room in the Center for Civic Engagement on Tuesday, November 12. The program which brought these interested folks together was a program “New Leaders’ Reflections and Suggestions.” Four young professionals spoke about some of the hurdles and challenges to leadership. Communication between the ages is still not easy and has never been. Different forms of reference add to the complexity as do different stages of life. The audience had questions for the speakers and left with greater insight and left very impressed with the goals of the speakers to selflessly work to make a better community. They have stepped forward as leaders who want to make a difference.

WINE-TASTING EVENT
What fun we had! The owners of the “Lil Old Wine Maker were super hosts. The tour of the winery was very interesting. There was a nice mixture of people interested in joining AAUW and those already members. No matter where you looked people were enjoying themselves. Marian Seagren Hall gave a short review of what AAUW is all about and some of the things that make us tick. Stop in for your Christmas purchases and thank the owners of ‘Lil Old Wine Maker (formerly Comfort Gallery). – Lucy Harvey

Thanks, Sande Sliwicki for arranging a lively Lunch Bunch for us at the Olive Garden. When AAUW members are together the conversation is always lively. On December 11 at 11:30 we will be at Vino Latte for good food, thought-provoking speaker, and enlightening discussion.
Our special guest will be the owner of Vino Latte who will share how she got into the business and what her primary job is—which is Crime Scene Investigator with the State. She is a tiny person with a big personality. I know we will all enjoy her. If anyone would like to get together for November and has any ideas, please let me know. I have also been in touch with a young woman who works as an undertaker and she is willing to have lunch with us. AAUW-WI Holds Successful Lobby Day
About 40 AAUW of Wisconsin members had a highly successful Legislative Day, which included training from AAUW representatives. Members discussed equal pay, paid family leave, women’s reproductive health, and school vouchers while meeting with 18 state legislative offices. AAUW-WI President Joyce Hoffman even received an impromptu standing ovation when her representative pulled her into a Democratic Caucus meeting and asked her to speak about the 30 branches in Wisconsin. Congratulations to all the leaders and members of AAUW-WI!

Introducing The United Way Community Closet
The United Way Community Closet will bring together under one roof two valuable services-Rebecca's Closet and Career Closet-- and provide a dedicated space to expand opportunities for collaboration. The Community Closet will be located in the same building as the new United Way offices at 705 S. 24th Avenue. United Way is in Suite 400B, and Suite 440 has been donated to United Way Community Closet by Ghidorzi Companies.
Rebecca's Closet by United Way Women in Action: infant and children's clothing, furniture and gear resource that provides parents in need with a foundation to provide for their families. Please Note: Distribution is made by area health and human service providers, through foster parents and teachers.
Career Closet by United Way Emerging Leaders: career apparel resource that outfits men and women with new or like-new clothing, shoes and accessories for interviewing and employment.
