AAMSS Non-member:$150* (This does not include AAMSS membership dues)

Cancellation Policy: Registration fee, less a $20.00 cancellation fee is refundable if notice is received five (5) working days prior to the conference. Registrants unable to attend may send an alternate attendee after notifying AAMSS.

Continuing Education Credits: Application has been made to NAMSS for 7.5 hours of continuing education credits.

Attire: Attire for the conference is business casual. Remember to bring a sweater or dress in layers due to fluctuation in room temperatures.

PRESENTERS:

KAREN OWENS, ESQUIRE: Karen is a partner in Coppersmith Schermer & Brockelman PLC. Her law practice focuses on health care administrative, regulatory and operations matters. She regularly represents health care systems, hospitals, clinics and managed care plans in matters of quality management, peer review, credentialing, bylaws, reporting medical staff structures and confidentiality. She has substantial experience handling contested matters before administrative bodies including private peer review panels, QIOs, AHCCCS and the Joint Commission. She also represents individual health care professionals before state professional boards, in particular the Board of Medicine and Nursing.

Karen is listed in Best Lawyers in America and Southwest Super Lawyers. She frequently speaks on topical issues to hospital governing board, medical staff leadership groups and administrative, medical staff services and risk management organizations. Karen received her bachelor’s degree at BrownUniversity and her law degree at VanderbiltUniversityLawSchool. She has practiced law in Arizona for over 26 years.

JOANN CONTORNO: Joann is in the business of helping people realize their dreams. As a Weight Watchers leader, author, entertainer, comedienne, runner, triathlete, wife and mother, Joann has first-hand experience at making dreams come true. She has touched over a million lives within hundreds of organizations. She continues to share her insights to inspire others, addressing her audience with humor, warmth and wit. With her presentations, she has impacted clubs, organizations, corporations and other groups throughout the country. In addition, as a sports motivational consultant she took a previously unranked team to the national top ten in only one year. That program went on to win six national championships. Joann welcomes the opportunity to take your conference from ordinary to extraordinary.

TIFFANY JOHNSON, CPCS, CPMSM: For the past seven years Tiffany Johnson has been the associate director for a CVO providing credentialing and provider enrollment services. However, during her career in medical staff services she has also had the opportunity to work for several TJC accredited hospitals. Ms. Johnson has served her state organization, VAMSS, as secretary, president-elect and president. Ms. Johnson has also served on the NAMSS Membership & Marketing Committee and currently serves as a Director At Large for NAMSS representing the states of: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.

MIKE GRAFTON: Mr. Grafton is currently the Group Supervisor for the Phoenix Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a position he has held since 2008. Prior to that, he served for several years as a Staff Coordinator in the DEA Headquarters, working on policy issues. Mr. Grafton also worked for 14 years in the DEA’s Chicago Division.

MARY HEDIN, RPLU: Mary Hedin is Vice President of Underwriting for Mutual Insurance Company of Arizona (MICA) where she is responsible for all aspects of MICA’s multi-state and multi-line underwriting operations in medical professional liability. Upon initially joining MICA in 2000, Ms. Hedin was primarily responsible for hospital underwriting in a four state region.

Prior to joining MICA, Ms. Hedin was Western Region Healthcare Manager for American International Group (AIG) both in Denver and San Francisco. While with AIG, she was responsible for the marketing and underwriting of AIG’s healthcare product lines in a thirteen Western state region.

Prior to that, Ms. Hedin spent fifteen years with Copic Insurance Company in Denver in various underwriting positions. From 1990 to 1997 she was the Vice President of Underwriting and Policyholder Service for Copic.

With over 30 years of insurance experience, she has specialized exclusively in the healthcare industry, specifically, medical professional liability. She has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver and a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University. She also holds the RPLU designation.

Ms. Hedin served on the PLUS (Professional Liability Underwriting Society) Board of Trustees from 2009-2012. She is a past co-chair of the PLUS Medical Professional Liability Symposium and the PLUS Southwest Chapter and is currently serving as chair of the PLUS Professional Development Committee. Ms. Hedin also previously served as the Chair of the Underwriting Section of the PIAA (Physician Insurers Association of America) from 2005-2013.
