Planned or potential disruption

Upgrade to mains water pipework: potential risk to campus water supply

Type of disruption: Next stage of the upgrade to mains water pipework by Kier and South West Water.

Reasons for work: Planned repairs to the pipes supplying water to the Penryn Campus following the burst water mains that we experienced last year.

Location:The works will take place on the A39 and in Treliever Road, Mabe.

Date and time:On-going, for about five weeks.

Who will be affected:Students, staff and visitors who drive to the Penryn Campus via the A39 or Treliever Lane, Mabe during the period of these works will need to observe the two-way traffic management systems in operation.

There is a possibility that the mains water supply to the Penryn Campus might be affected during the period of these works but Kier will not be able to confirm any such outage until they reach key sections of the pipework and assess the extent of the repairs that need to be made. In the event of an unplanned outage, they will inform us immediately.

More information:Further updates will be posted to our Twitter feed, @falmouthexeter and our Facebook page,

This is subject to their close inspection of the line at low tide, and any further damage from the storms that are expected this weekend (8 and 9 February). The plan they are working to for the next week is as follows:

  • Trains from Penzance to Plymouth will run as scheduled
  • All Cornish branch lines will run as normal
  • Trains from London Paddington to Exeter will run as per the amended timetable currently in place
  • Coaches will provide road transport between Exeter and Plymouth
