COACH TRIP LLANGOLLEN

A WALK STRENUOUS LINEAR 13 MILES

Today’s walk is an exception from the recent walks in that, weather permitting, it should all be on good paths (although not always shown on the map!) with the yomping purely optional! We set off from the small village of Corwen, up a popular tourist track to a coffee stop overlooking the town and valley. From here we head further upwards into open countryside, to reach the top of Moel Ffana, with great views in all directions. From here we keep to the high ground before reaching the second peak of Vivod Mountain. Now it is all downhill to the fleshpots of Llangollen. This walk was receed on a Bank Holiday Monday and we only saw 2 other hikers all day. Leaders David and Christina

B WALK MODERATE CIRCULAR 9 MILES

More by accident than design a considerable part of our walk today follows the Llangollen Historic Trail. As a result, we make our way out of the town along the canal towpath, passing the Royal Eisteddfod Pavilion, to Berwyn for coffee. After which we go by Llantisiylio Church, skirt the Velvet Hill for a view of the pillar of Eliseg, past the ValleCrucis Abbey, before joining the Clwydian Way to skirt the Castell Dinas Bran Hill. Our route back gives lovely views of the DeeValley, and even a short trip on the Offa’s Dyke Path. It is not advised to wear shorts due to nettles and gorse and there are several high stiles. Leaders Martin and Terry

C WALK EASY CIRCULAR 8 MILES

Only one hill, at the beginning, out of Llangollen and up to the Castell Dinas Bran (accent 700ft!!). The remaining 7.75 miles are all downhill. Following the “Panoramic Walk” along the road before joining the Offa’s Dyke Path down through the woods to Trevor Hall. Distant views of the canal aqueduct can be glimpsed from here as the lane descends to the canal. The last hour of the walk is beside the canal back to Llangollen. Leaders Brian and Chris

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Friends for their good wishes, E-mails and cards. It is certainly nice to know I am in your thoughts. Hopefully, the break is healing and it will not be too long before I’m back on the back seat. Hope you all have a good walk.
