Learning to Live, Loving to Learn

December 2016

Dear Parents

Welcome to our last newsletter of 2016.

Thank you to everyone who came along to see our Christmas Shows last week. It is always great to share these special occasions with you and I’m sure you will agree that all the performances were up to the usual very high standard. You should all be very proud of your children. Huge thanks must go to all the teaching and support staff for making sure these ran smoothly and successfully.

P1-7 will be entertained by M&M Theatre Company this week, they will bring us their production of Peter Pan. The cost of the ticket money from the children’s performances goes towards paying for this event for everyone.

The Nursery enjoyed a great trip to the Brunton Hall to see the pantomime Aladdin the other week and special thanks go to all the parents who helped out.

Our Christmas parties will be in full swing this week and a ‘special visitor’ will be making an appearance in Nursery and P1-3.

Thanks to your continuing support and generosity, our Christmas Hamper raffles raised £670. Many thanks to everyone who donated items and bought tickets. The money raised will be split between school funds and local charities to be chosen by the Pupil Council.

Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day – Thursday 22nd December

The children are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper on the last day of term and bring in a small donation for Save the Children.

Parent Helpers - Thank you as always to all our parent helpers and volunteers who come into school and help us throughout the year. Your support is greatly appreciated by all the staff and children.

We would also like to thank our Scotland Reads Volunteers who give up their time on a regular basis to support children across the school with their reading skills.

Thanks also go to our wonderful book shop ladies who come into school every week to collect money and run our book shop.

Dates For Your Diary

Please note that all the children start back on Monday 9th January 2017.

New Term Reminders – can we please remind everyone that your child needs the following items for the new term

ü  Indoor shoes that fit and are secure on their feet (many of the plimsolls with velco fastenings do not stay shut so become unsafe!)

ü  Gym kit with shorts/t-shirt

ü  Coat for break/lunchtimes

ü  Water bottle to keep in class

Can we please remind parents/carers that indoor shoes do not need to be black plimsolls however they do need to be safe and suitable for indoor use and PE

We continue to have large amounts of lost property left around the school. Can you please ensure all items are clearly named.

Can we please also remind everyone that we are a NUT FREE school so please do not send your child to school with snacks or packed lunches that contain any nuts or nut products including NUTELLA, many makes of chocolate spread and pre packed crepes containing chocolate spread. We are also a KIWI FREE school.

Can we please ask that for safety reasons parents/carers do not park in the staff car park at the front of the school and do not use the kitchen car park as a route through to the time garden and playground. Children are walking through the car parks and this is dangerous at the start/end of the day when there are kitchen deliveries and cars arriving.

Your support in ensuring your child/ren arrives on time for school at 8.50am is also greatly appreciated to avoid disruption to the teaching and learning of the class.

Milk Money - Milk Money is due to the office after the holidays. Cheques should be made payable to East Lothian Council at a cost of £10.80. Please remember payments can also be made online using the button on our school blog page.

Finally on behalf of all the staff at Longniddry Primary I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Kind regards as always

Sheona Skinner
