Aims

Conclusions

It might help to use them as headings.

What is the differencebetweenaims and objectives?

An aim is what you set out to do. Aims are difficult to measure and there may be little to prove that they have been met. Objectives however are quantitative targets, steps along the road to meeting the main aim. They often include dates, numbers or other values. It is by completing the objectives that the aim is finally met.

Example

Basil’s aim is to eventually become a hotel manager. To do this he realises he has to achieve certain objectives:

  1. Pass his A levels when he is 18.
  2. Pass a degree in hospitality management by the age of 24.
  3. Save £20 per month so he can enrol on a customer service night class next summer.

He will have certificates to prove he has completed the qualifications he needs and a bank account will show when he has saved enough money to attend the night class. These are measurable/quantifiable objectives.

Put another way..

Aim

An intention or aspiration; what you hope to achieve.

Aims are statements of intent, written in broad terms.

Aims set out what you hope to achieve at the end of the project.

Objective

A goal or a step on the way to meeting the aim; how you will achieve it.

Objectives use specific statements which define measurable outcomes. For example: what steps will you take to achieve the desired outcome?

Objectives should be specific - be precise about what you are going to do

The following are requirements which must be adhered to. Candidates not adhering to these will have their work returned without any further assessment.
