B.Leakage requirement:

1.Leakage requirement applies only to slide gates with neoprene seals.

2.With optional seals maximum allowable leakage of slide gates with seating head shall not exceed 0.10 gpm/ft of wetted perimeter, or 0.20 gpm/ft of wetted perimeter for gates with unseating head at the maximum head pressure specified.

2.3DESIGNCRITERIA

A.CompositionoftheslidegatelaminateshallbeinaccordancewiththerecommendationsshownintheQualityAssuranceReport for ReinforcedThermostatPlastic(RTP)CorrosionResistantEquipmentpreparedunderthesponsorshipthe Societyofthe PlasticsIndustry, Inc.(SPI)andtheMaterialTechnologyInstituteoftheChemicalProcessIndustries,Inc.(MTI)for“HandLay-upLaminates”andshallmeetthespecificationsforType1,Grade10laminatesshowninAppendixM-1ofsaidreport.

1.VisualinspectionfordefectsshallbemadewithouttheaidofmagnificationanddefectsshallbeclassifiedastotypeandlevelasshowninTable1ofANSI/ASTMD2563-0,approved1977,(oranysubsequentrevision).Allowablesurfacetolerancesareasfollows:

G.SealedArea

1.Slidegateshallsealonthreesides–notopseal.

2.4CONSTRUCTION

A.GateBody

1.Slidegatebodyshallbemanufacturedoffiberglassreinforcedpolyestertotallyencapsulatinganinternalreinforcingstructure.

2.Eachgateshallbemoldedindividuallytotheexactdimensionsspecified.Seamsandjointsinandonthebodyarenotacceptable.

3.Slidegatesshallbemanufacturedofreinforcedthermosetplastic.

4.GatebodyshallhaveUVStabilizingpigmentintheResintoprovidelong-termprotectionfromUV.

5.Thesurfaceshallberesinrichtoadepthof.010inchesto.020inches(.25-.51mm)andreinforcedwithC-glassand/orpolymericfibersurfacingmaterial.

6.Thesurfaceshallbefreeofexposedreinforcingfibers.

7.Thecompositionoftheselayersshallbeapproximately95%(byweight)resin.Theremaininglaminateshallbemadeupofcopolymercompositeandreinforcingfibersinaform,orientationandpositiontomeetthemechanicalrequirements.

8.Structuralreinforcingshallbeutilizedtoattainthenecessary stiffnesstomeetdeflectionrequirements,andshallbewellencapsulatedtoensureagainstanypermeationbywatertothecoreareas.

9.AChoose a materialstemmountingbracketshallfastentothegatewiththroughbolts.Thethroughholesshallnotpassthroughorbeincontactwiththeinternalmildsteelreinforcing.

10.Corematerialmustbe100%resistanttodecayandattackbyfungusandbacteriaandberesistanttohydrocarbons.

B.Seals (Optional)

1.Thegateshallbeequippedwithelastomericsealstoreduceleakage.

2.ElastomericJ-sealsshallbemadeofmoldedorextrudedneoprene/EPDMhavingahardnessrangeof55to65shoreAdurometerandconformingtoASTMspec.D-2000havingamaximumcompressionsetof25%,andlowtemperaturebrittlenesstomeetsuffixF-17(-400).

3.Whereself-containedguidesareextendedabovetheoperatingfloorleveltoformthebenchstanduponwhichtheliftmechanismisfastened,they mustbesuitablystrongandrigidwithouttheuseofadditionalstiffeningmembers.

4.Wherea wallmountedguideframeextendsaboveaconcretewallthetopanchorboltshallbenotmorethan6”(152mm)belowthetopofthewall.

5.Gateinvertsshallbeflushwiththechannelbottom.

6.Theheadrailshallbeaffixedsoastoallowthegatetoberemovedfromtheguidewithoutdisassembly.

7.Theheadrailshallhaveamaximumdeflectionof1/4”(6mm)whensubjectedtoahorizontalforceoftwotimesthe40lb.(2.8ksc)maximumhandwheelpull.

8.IftheGatewidthisgreaterthan48” (1219mm)and2x thegateheight,atandem stem shallbeused.

9.GuidestobeboltedtotheheadwallshallallowforeaseofmountingtothechannelwallbymeansofChoose a materialanchorbolts.

10.Nowallthimblesshallberequiredforinstallation.

D.LiftsOperators

1.Operatorsshallbesizedtostartthegatemovingunderamaximumheadpressurewithapullofnotmorethan40lbs(2.8ksc).

2.Amanualhandwheelshallbesuppliedthatiscompatiblewiththelift.
