FLOOR DOORS

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1  SUMMARY

A. Section includes:

1.  Floor Doors, Drainable Series ideal for non-fire rated, exterior applications requiring water drainage. Includes frame with integral drain connection, hardware and attachments for installation. Performance requirements support live loads for pedestrian 300psf as well as H20 wheel loads suitable for use in off street locations where subjected to infrequent, off road, traffic.

1.3  SUBMITTALS

  1. Shop Drawings: Show profiles, hardware, accessories, location and dimensions.
  2. Product Data: Manufacturer’s technical data for each type of floor door, including setting drawings, templates, finish requirements, and details of anchorage devices.
  3. Samples: Manufacturer to provide upon request, size to represent material adequately.
  4. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: Indicate installation requirements and rough-in dimensions.

1.4  DELIVERY, STORAGE, and HANDLING

  1. Deliver materials to Project site ready use.
  2. Exercise proper care in handling of Work so as not to disrupt finished surfaces.
  3. Store materials under cover in a dry and clean location off the ground.

1.5  job conditions and sequencing

  1. Coordinate with other trades any related work to avoid delay.
  2. Mounting surfaces shall be straight and secure; substrates shall be of proper width.
  3. Provide inserts and anchoring devices that will be built into other Work for installation of floor door.
  4. Observe all appropriate OSHA safety guidelines for this work.

1.6  WARRANTY

  1. Provide manufacturer's standard warranty. All floor doors shall be free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of shipment. Should a product fail to function in normal use within this period, manufacturer shall furnish a new part at no charge. Special locks, finishes, and other special equipment (if applicable) shall be warranted by the manufacturer of those products.

2.2  Drainable series floor doors, Pedestrian load 300psf

  1. Aluminum Doors and Frames:
  2. Performance Requirements: Fabricate floor door assemblies to support pedestrian load of 300 psf pounds per square foot [1464 kg/m2] minimum.
  3. Doors: ¼” [6.3mm] reinforced aluminum diamond plate.
  4. Frame: ¼” [6.3mm] extruded aluminum gutter frame with integral bend out masonry flange anchors and 1-1/2 inch drainage coupling for attachment to drainage system.
  5. Finish: Mill finish aluminum with 1 coat of epoxy paint on concealed aluminum surfaces in contact with cementitious or dissimilar materials.
  6. Latch: Type 316 stainless steel slam latch with inside lever handle and outside removable 5/16” square key wrench and flush type plug seal.
  7. Handle: Type 316 stainless steel flush lifting handle on outside of door.
  8. Hinge: Type 316 stainless steel, heavy-duty butt hinge with stainless steel pin fastened to door with stainless steel carriage bolts.
  9. Springs: Stainless steel compression lift springs designed to counterbalance door weight and provide smooth, easy, controlled door operation.
  10. Hold-Open Arm: Type 316 stainless steel arm that automatically locks door in the open position to 90 degrees. Provide release handle with red vinyl grip that releases door and allows for door closure.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1  EXAMINATION

  1. Verify that preparation and affected dimensions are acceptable.
  2. Verify tolerances and correct improper conditions.

3.2  PREPARATION

  1. Advise installers of details relating to floor hatch installation, including rough opening dimensions, locations of supports, and anchoring methods.

3.3  INSTALLATION

  1. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for installing floor doors and hatches.
  2. Install frames plumb and level in opening, in proper alignment with floor surface for flush installation. Secure rigidly in place.
  3. Position units to provide convenient access to concealed Work requiring access.

3.4  CLEAN AND ADJUST

  1. Clean adjacent surfaces and remove unused product and debris from site.
  2. Adjust doors for smooth operation.
