A school message from Pinellas Park Middle School

PROGRESS REPORTS
Today all students were sent home with a copy of their mid-term progress report. The grades on these sheets represent what your child has earned to date. The grades are NOT final. So for those students bringing home disappointing grades, approximately half of the marking period remains with plenty of time for students to make up any missed work.
Your child did not bring home a progress report? While we may have missed a student or two, families can also check their child’s grades by going on-line through Parent Portal. You can check your child’s attendance, discipline and academic progress daily. Do NOT get caught uninformed. The end of the Marking Period is October 11, 2016. There is still time left to improve those grades!
PTSA and SAC Meeting (Please pop in to our meeting this THURSDAY!)
Our PTSA and SAC would love to include more parents and guardians in making suggestions on how best to improve our school. Sadly, while family engagement remains high during the elementary school years, it drops off significantly as students move on to middle school. Please be forewarned that these middle years can be some of the toughest years for many of our students.
Although our leadership board still has several positions remaining vacant, parents who join and attend meetings will NOT be forced to do anything; all activities are organized and held on a voluntary basis. At the same time, why would you not want to be involved in your child’s education? Our PTSA Board would love to have your membership and participation if you have some time available.
Please “pop” in to Thursday evening’s meeting.
Meetings are held monthly in our cafeteria starting at 6pm. Respecting that your time is valuable, we keep the formal meeting to no more than one (1) hour. And yes! We’ll have popcorn.
Fund Raising
And as unfortunate as it is that we must hold fundraisers to support the school, the Otis Spunkmeyer Fund raiser is coming to an end. All students are asked to bring in their orders to the front office prior to the end of the week. Students still have a couple days remaining to become eligible for the Mega Reward Celebration, be invited to the Video Game Trailer event or jump into the Money Machine.
Adopt-A-Class/School
You would like to support the school without buying something you really do not need? Families can donate funds to the school in general, for specific needs such as recreational reading books, technology or school supplies. You can also adopt one of your child’s classes giving their teacher more opportunities to support their program with additional material materials. 100% of one’s direct donation goes to children.
Box Tops for education
Easiest fund raiser ever. Nothing to purchase that you are not already buying. An untold number of thousands of products carry the “Box Tops for Education coupon”. Each one is worth 10 cents and believe it or not those dimes add up to hundreds of dollars. Last year we collect over $563 worth of coupons and we believe $1,000 is a reasonable goal. A flier is going home this week with more details.
