A RESOLUTION Recognizing and Commending the First Responders Who Are Tirelessly and Selflessly

A RESOLUTION recognizing and commending the first responders who are tirelessly and selflessly providing relief efforts in response to the devastating tornadoes that hit southern Campbell County and Pendleton County.

WHEREAS, severe weather began on the afternoon of March 2, 2012, and continued to gather strength as severe storms and tornadoes drove across Kentucky, beginning in the west and sweeping throughout the Commonwealth, leaving in their wake loss of life, enormous destruction of property, hundreds of injuries, and breaks in basic utilities; and

WHEREAS, 48 Kentucky counties suffered damages from the storms and tornadoes. At least 21 individuals perished, and more than 300 injuries have been reported statewide. Hundreds of Kentuckians have had their homes destroyed or severely damaged, and over 19,000 people were without power as of Sunday; and

WHEREAS, southern Campbell County and Pendleton County were greatly impacted by the storms and tornadoes. The storm system left a path of destruction spanning several miles. One Pendleton County woman died as a result of the natural disaster, ten people were injured, more than 60 homes were destroyed, and more than 140 homes were damaged; and

WHEREAS, in the immediate aftermath of the absolute devastation, destruction of property, and the loss of life caused by the March 2nd tornadoes, Campbell County and Pendleton County relied on the rapid response and hard work of its firefighters, police, rescue squads, and emergency management officials. Despite risks to their own safety, these brave men and women entered into the depths of destruction to search for survivors and administer aid to the good citizens of Campbell and Pendleton counties, who were so severely affected by this tragedy. The unyielding resolve of these men and women in the most desperate of hours served as an inspiration and a point of hope for the citizens of Campbell County and Pendleton County;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives recognizes and commends the first responders who are tirelessly and selflessly providing relief efforts in response to the devastating tornadoes that hit southern Campbell County and Pendleton County on March 2, 2012.

âSection 2. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit two copies of this Resolution to Representative Tom McKee, 702 Capitol Avenue, Annex Room 332 B, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601 for delivery to the Campbell County Judge/Executive and the Pendleton County Judge/Executive.
