A RESOLUTION Honoring Villa Madonna Academy's Celebration of Its 100Th Anniversary Year

A RESOLUTION honoring Villa Madonna Academy's celebration of its 100th anniversary year.

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy, which began as a boarding and day school for girls under the direction of the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg in Covington, Kentucky, has a rich history of quality teaching and service; and

WHEREAS, in 1921, the Benedictine Sisters opened Villa Madonna College as an addition to the elementary and high school programs, now known as Thomas More College and located in Crestview Hills; and

WHEREAS, the scholastic reputation of Villa Madonna Academy was beyond reproach due to the faculty and students' interests in academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy, now a coeducational Catholic school serving grades 1 through 12, boasts higher than average test scores on national standardized tests and has been accredited continuously by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools since 1925; and

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy demonstrated its academic excellence by being the only Greater Cincinnati high school to receive the designation as a United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence under two distinct criteria for two consecutive years, 2002 and 2003; and

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy enrolls 415 students with a school faculty composed of two Benedictine Sisters, one Sister of Divine Providence, 42 lay women, and four lay men, all of whom have or are pursuing advanced degrees; and

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy's campus is situated on the beautiful 234-acre property owned by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg Monastery, and is made available to the City of Villa Hills and the community for area youth to participate in a variety of sports such as baseball, soccer, and football and other community activities; and

WHEREAS, Villa Madonna Academy is in its 100th year of preparing students to respect themselves and others, to have a sense of self-discipline, to accept personal responsibility for their attitudes and actions and to dedicate themselves to academic excellence and life-long learning; and

WHEREAS, the Benedictine Sisters are committed to students who seek God in their tradition of reverence, peace, scholarship, service, and community; and

WHEREAS, the Villa Madonna Academy family has invited the community to join them at the Celebrating the Century Social on Saturday, May 14, 2005;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body does hereby commend the outstanding education and community contributions made by the Villa Madonna Academy, under the leadership of the Benedictine Sisters of St. Walburg, during the past 100 years.

Section 2. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mike Whelan, President, Villa Madonna Academy, 2500 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Kentucky 41017.
