A RESOLUTION honoring the Wayne County High School football team.
WHEREAS, this honorable body commends rare athletic achievement, and gives special honor and commendation to those athletic teams who pursue such excellence that they become examples for the youth of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Wayne County High School football team achieved such excellence during the 2013 season. The Cardinals set multiple school records on their way to being runner-up in KHSAA Class AAA. They scored the most points per game during a season (34.7), held their opponents to the fewest points per game allowed in a season (10.5), went undefeated at 10-0, finished with 14 total wins, capped the season ranked #1 in the final AAA poll, and were District 4 and Region 2 champions; and
WHEREAS, Wayne County High School also saw many historic individual accomplishments during the 2013 campaign. James Barnes and Alan Brown were named to the East/West All-Star Game roster; Tyler Guffey and Ryan Corder were named to the Kentucky National Guard Bowl roster; wide receiver Jason Perkins was named to the Courier-Journal's all-state second team and the Associated Press all-state second team; quarterback Tyler Guffey was named Courier-Journal all-state honorable mention, Associated Press all-state honorable mention, District 4 Player of the Year, and Class AAA Player of the Year; and Coach Shawn Thompson was named District 4 and Class AAA Courier-Journal Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Wayne County High School's season ended in a hard-fought 3-0 defeat to Belfry in the state championship game, but the incredible season will be one that the players, their families, and the entire Cardinal community will always remember. This body honors those players today for their hard work and accomplishments during the 2013 football season, acknowledges the talent and leadership of Coach Shawn Thompson and his dedicated staff, and applauds the entire Wayne County community for offering the needed support and goodwill that helped these young athletes succeed at such a high level;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives hereby honors the Wayne County High School football team for its extraordinary 2013 season, and grants best wishes to Coach Shawn Thompson for the work he and his staff have done with these athletes on and off the football field.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns on this day, it does so in honor of the Wayne County High School football team.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit this Resolution to Brian Dishman, Principal, Wayne County High School, 2 Kenny Davis Blvd., Monticello, Kentucky 42633.
