A RESOLUTION honoring the military career of Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III.

WHEREAS, Charles Buford Welch III was born on October 11, 1962, a native of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky; he is a graduate of Bryan Station High School; and

WHEREAS, in 1980, Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III dedicated himself to serving his country by enlisting in the United States Army; he attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and advanced individual training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; upon completion of training, he returned to his native Lexington to serve in the 810th Convalescent Center United States Army Reserve Troop Unit; and

WHEREAS, he diligently advanced his training through attending many military schools including the Hospital Food Service Specialist Advanced Course, Food Service Specialist Advanced Course, Food Service Management Course, both basic and advanced training for noncommissioned officers, and he became a certified instructor through Army Medical Department Faculty Development; and

WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III has been called to active duty throughout his career to support important missions including four months in support of Operation Desert Storm, nine months as the noncommissioned officer in charge NCD Wuerzburg MEDDAC, and two years supporting the efforts against terrorism with the 37th TRANSCOM unit in Operation Enduring Freedom; and

WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III is a highly decorated soldier; he has received numerous honors including the Meritorious Service Medal for service during Operation Enduring Freedom, the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, the NATO Medal, and various other ribbons; and

WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III has served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army Reserve with more than 23 years of military service; and

WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III currently is assigned to the 37th TRANSCOM Brigade Food Service Advisor, Kaiserslautern, Germany; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is deeply grateful to Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III for his many years of outstanding service and his dedication to the United States Army Reserve;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate is proud to recognize the patriotic service and distinguished career of Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III and does hereby express its appreciation. We extend our best wishes for his further success and good fortune in the future.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Master Sergeant Charles B. Welch III.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Master Sergeant Charles B.
