A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Loving Memory and Honor of Thomas Hodge

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Thomas Hodge.

WHEREAS, Thomas Hodge was born to the late William and Elizabeth Hodge and departed this life on December 27, 2011, in Henderson, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Hodge was a graduate of Episcopal High School in Arlington, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. degree in commerce. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army for three and a half years in Europe as well as in the Pacific theatres; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Hodge returned home from the war and became employed in the family business and eventually became President of the Hodge Tobacco Company with locations in Owensboro, Kentucky, and Kingsville, Ontario. After the dissolution of this family business, he became a stock broker at Hilliard Lyons for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Hodge was a member of the Presbyterian Church all of his life and served the church as a trustee, deacon, and elder. A community minded man, he also served his community through his participation in the Henderson Rotary Club. He enjoyed playing tennis and loved the game of golf; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Hodge was a devoted family man and loving husband to his wife, Maratha Dorsey Hodge of Henderson, and they were blessed with seven children. His wonderful daughters and their loving husbands are Glenn Hodge Ridley and Senator Dorsey Ridley, Ann Hodge Curtis and Tom Curtis, and Janet Hodge Warner and Drew Warner. His cherished sons and their loving wives are Thomas Dorsey Hodge and Ann Solomon Hodge, John Paton Hodge and Ann Scheiman Hodge, and Keith A. Hodge and Carla Hodge. In addition to these family members who survive him, he was blessed with 23 grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death, by one daughter, Margaret Waller Hodge, one brother, William G. Hodge, and one sister, Elizabeth Hodge King; and

WHEREAS, the Senate deeply mourns the loss of Thomas Hodge, who was so loved by his son-in-law, Senator Dorsey Ridley, his family, friends, and the entire community of Henderson, Kentucky;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate expresses its deep sense of sorrow upon the passing of this outstanding Kentuckian, Thomas Hodge, and extends to his family, friends, and community its sincere condolences.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Thomas Hodge.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senate Minority Leadership.
