A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Richard Lundy Elswick.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Richard Lundy Elswick, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Richard Lundy Elswick was born on September 10, 1948, a native of Pike County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on March 20, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lundy Elswick was the loving son of the late Lundy and Violet Pinson Elswick; he was the devoted husband of Jewell Slone Elswick, and he was the proud father of a son, Philip Richard Elswick; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lundy Elswick graduated from Elkhorn City High School; he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky, and he was a 1972 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law; and he served his country with pride as a captain in the JAG Corps of the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lundy Elswick will be remembered as an active and involved citizen, and a highly esteemed member of the Pike County community where he was a devout member and elder of Pikeville Church of Christ, and he was on the Pike County Habitat for Humanity board; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lundy Elswick was a dedicated public servant who served as one of Pike County's longest-standing district judges from 1980-1989; he also served as a Kentucky Court of Appeals judge in 1989, and he had served as an assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for eight years under former longtime Pike County prosecutor John Paul Runyon; and at the time of his passing, he was serving as assistant Commonwealth's Attorney under Pike County prosecutor Rick Bartley, and he was affiliated with the law firm of Vanover, Hall, and Bartley; and

WHEREAS, a life spent worthily should be measured by deeds, not years, and through his compassion, enthusiasm, and genuine love and concern for his fellow man, Richard Lundy Elswick is worthy of the highest commendation; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Richard Lundy Elswick has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Richard Lundy Elswick, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Richard Lundy Elswick.
