A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Lucille Caudill Little.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Lucille Caudill Little, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul.

WHEREAS, Lucille Caudill Little was born on August 20, 1909, a native of Rowan County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on October 8, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Lucille Caudill Little was the loving daughter of the late Judge Daniel Boone and Rosetta Proctor Caudill; and she was the devoted wife to her loving husband, the late W. Paul Little; she was preceded in death by a loving sister, Dr. Claire Louise Caudill, and a loving brother, Boone Proctor Caudill; and she is survived by a loving sister, Patricia Caudill Eubank of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and a loving brother, Dr. Charles Milton Caudill of Somerset; and

WHEREAS, Lucille Caudill Little attended elementary and high school in Morehead, where she participated in speech, drama and music at Rowan County High School; she graduated from Hamilton College in Lexington, a women's school associated with Transylvania College; she attended classes at Transylvania College and the University of Kentucky before studying voice at Stetson University in Florida; after completing a bachelor's degree at Ohio State University in 1932, she took graduate courses at Columbia University in New York City, after which time she was the recipient of a scholarship to the prestigious Julliard School of Music, and continued her voice studies in New York under Douglas Stanley with Lily Pons as accompanist; she then returned home to Morehead and taught speech at Morehead Teachers College where she was instrumental in starting the school's theater department; and in 1937, she married W. Paul Little, after which time they made Lexington their home, where she became a participant and donor of the arts; and

WHEREAS, Lucille Caudill Little demonstrated an unwavering enthusiasm for the arts; her participation in and generous contributions to the causes she so passionately believed in was evidenced through her many substantial monetary awards throughout Kentucky; she was a founder and director of the Lexington Children's Theatre; a founder and director of Studio Players; a founder and past president of the Lexington Council on Social Planning; a founding member of the Board of the Lexington Symphony and the Lexington Philharmonic; a past president of the Lexington Girl Scout Council; a founder and president of the Blue Grass Girl Scout Council; a founding member of the boards of the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra, the Living Arts and Science Center, the Fellows of the Arts, and Arts Place. She was a member of the National Society of Arts and Letters and was an original member of the Society of Fellows of the Lexington Arts Cultural Council and president of the W. Paul and Lucille Caudill Little Foundation; she served on the Board of Trustees at Transylvania University and Midway College, the Board of Directors of the Bank of the Bluegrass, the University of Kentucky Library Associates Executive Committee, the Lexington Opera Board, and the Henry Clay Estate. She received honorary doctorate degrees from Transylvania University, Georgetown College, the University of Kentucky, and Morehead State University, and had been awarded the Lexington Optimist Cup; and she was a member of Central Christian Church where she had been a soloist; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Lucille Caudill Little has left a void that cannot be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Lucille Caudill Little, and extends to her family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Lucille Caudill Little brought to the Commonwealth of Kentucky will never be forgotten, and her influence will continue through the many worthy causes she so generously supported.

Section 3. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Lucille Caudill Little.
