A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Richard Ray Smalley upon the occasion of his 100th birthday.

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley, a beloved treasure of the Commonwealth, was born on March 24, 1913, the son of William and Mary Clark Smalley; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley has worked diligently in his community for many years, operating as a farmer in Washington County for over 35 years, working briefly at General Electric, serving his local hospital, and instructing and inspiring youth at Marion County Vocational School until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley serves as a steadfast anchor in the community of faith, joining in fellowship throughout his youth and following the leadership at St. Augustine Catholic Church for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley remains a compassionate and generous steward to many, utilizing his unique charm, life lessons, and vast experiences to encourage and empower others; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley fervently follows the news and deeply loves Kentucky folklore, politics, and history, inspiring him to compose a collection of over 140 news scrapbooks and 700 poster boards; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley is the devout patriarch of his family, the loving husband and companion of 72 years to the late Mary Helen Montgomery; the proud father of 12; and the doting grandfather of 28 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Richard Ray Smalley merits tremendous honor and recognition upon the celebration of his 100th birthday, and deserves great praise for his example of unwavering love, compassion for others, and invaluably wise counsel;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate honors and commends Richard Ray Smalley upon the occasion of his 100th birthday and extends its sincerest appreciation for a century of leadership and service to our Commonwealth.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Richard Ray Smalley.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Rita Turner, 391 North Woodlawn Avenue, Lebanon, Kentucky 40033.
