A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Pauline Toms, City Clerk of Park City.

WHEREAS, Pauline Toms was born on October 14, 1921, a native of Park City, Barren County, Kentucky, and she is the loving daughter of the late Ernest and Florence Wheeler; her father was a farmer by profession, and she grew up helping with chores on their family farm; and

WHEREAS, Pauline Toms attended elementary school at Walnut Hill School from 1927 to 1934, and she graduated from the "new" Park City School in 1937; and

WHEREAS, Pauline Toms married Leland "Bob" Toms on May 1, 1937; he was the son of the late Barney and Letha Toms, who owned and operated Toms Garage in Park City; Bob Toms was the first married man in Barren County to be drafted into World War II, where he served three years in Europe before returning home in 1945; during the war, Pauline Toms worked in Louisville for the Curtiss-Wright Company, helping to manufacture airplanes for the war effort; and after the war, Pauline and Bob purchased the family business, and continued operating it until 1981, when Bob suddenly passed away; and

WHEREAS, Pauline Toms has diligently served as City Clerk for Park City since 1954, and during her tenure, she has served numerous mayors and many council members; she has also served as an election officer at the Park City Precinct; she has been a lifelong member of the Republican Party, and a dedicated member of the Republican Womens Club since its formation; and she is a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ at Park City; and

WHEREAS, Pauline Toms recently turned eighty-eight years of age, and she continues to work every day in the City Hall at Park City, performing the duties of City Clerk, as she has done for the past 50 years;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate is honored and privileged to commend Pauline Toms for her many years of service as City Clerk of Park City. She has worked diligently, enthusiastically, and has devoted most of her life to her community. We express our deepest appreciation to Pauline Toms for her many accomplishments as a public servant, and for the distinction she has brought to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We wish her continued success in all future endeavors.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Pauline Toms.
