A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor of John D. Harper Upon the Occasion of His

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of John D. Harper upon the occasion of his imminent retirement from public service.

WHEREAS, it seems appropriate from time to time for this honorable body to reflect upon the contributions of special Kentuckians, such as our colleague and friend, John D. Harper, who has enriched the lives of so many people; and

WHEREAS, when we reflect upon the contributions John D. Harper has tirelessly given to the citizens of this great Commonwealth throughout his political career, we are reminded that ethics and integrity have played a large part toward his achievement as an outstanding legislator in representing the Forty-Ninth Legislative District, and as County Judge/Executive of Bullitt County, upon whom his constituents could thoroughly depend; and his accomplishments should serve as an example for those who succeed him; and

WHEREAS, John D. Harper is a graduate of the University of Louisville and he served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force; as a private businessman, he has had a most diversified and fascinating life in the civil engineering profession, and as an inventor, he holds 23 foreign and domestic patents; he has traveled the world extensively, and his excellence as a creative photographer is illustrated in a published book he authored; and his enthusiasm for small craft and seaworthy vessels led him to become a licensed towboat operator and active in such organizations as the Propeller Club, the Masters, Mates and Pilots Association, and the Inland Boatmen's Union of SIU AFL-CIO; and

WHEREAS, John D. Harper is the devoted husband of Mary Harper, and the loving father of Alex Harper and the late Ian Harper; and he is the proud grandfather of a grandson, Jared Harper; and

WHEREAS, in grateful appreciation of his personal commitments and enduring contributions to the citizens of his community and to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, he is being specially recognized by his many friends on Saturday, April 18, 1998, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Aloysius School in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, where he will be honored by such dignitaries as Senator Mitch McConnell, Congressman Ron Lewis, Congressman Jim Bunning, and state and local officials;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body hails and commends John D. Harper upon his imminent retirement from public service. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated strong character and has proved to be an element of invincible strength to all the lives he has touched, and his many contributions to the citizens of this Commonwealth are beyond measure and will have lasting impact. We wish to him continued success in all future endeavors.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of John D. Harper upon his imminent retirement from public service.
