A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Mason Slusher.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Mason Slusher, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Mason Slusher was born on January 22, 1907, a native of Beverly, Bell County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 24, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mason Slusher was the loving son of the late James and Sarah Taylor Slusher; he was the devoted husband of the late Sarah Lawson Slusher; and he was also preceded in passing by two loving sons, Mason Slusher Jr. and Silas "Punkin" Slusher, and a loving son-in-law, the Reverend Doyle Taylor; and

WHEREAS, Mason Slusher was the loving father of Dr. Eugene and Mellana Slusher of Lexington, Opal L. and Roy Sims of Southern Pines, North Carolina, Delia Taylor of Hulen, and Donnie Arnett of Pineville; he was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren; the proud great-grandfather of 24 great-grandchildren; and the proud great-great- grandfather of four great-great-grandchildren; and he also leaves behind two loving daughters-in-law, Freda and Margie Slusher, both of Beverly; and

WHEREAS, Mason Slusher was an esteemed member of the Bell County community, where he was an active and involved citizen, and where he was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church; he was a graduate of Union College in Barbourville; he was a retired teacher and a past principal of Crockett Elementary School; he served as bookkeeper for Round Mountain Coal Company, and he had a grocery business in Beverly; and

WHEREAS, Mason Slusher was actively involved in the Democrat Party, and he represented his constituents from Legislative District 88 in Bell County with pride and honesty in the Kentucky House of Representatives during the 1960 and 1962 legislative sessions; and during his tenure in the Kentucky General Assembly, he was an early supporter of mandatory education, making education available to as many people as possible; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Mason Slusher has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow at the passing of Mason Slusher, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Mason Slusher.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Dr. Eugene and Mellana Slusher, 3581 Gloucester Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40510-9758.
