A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Andrew C. Duke.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Andrew C. Duke, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Andrew C. Duke was born on July 21, 1917, a native of Maysville, Mason County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 4, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Andrew C. Duke was the loving son of the late Thomas Arrington and Harriet Cochran Duke; he was the devoted husband of Mary Louise Henderson Duke; he was the loving father of a son, Thomas A. Duke II of Lexington; and he was the loving brother of Mary Duke Ford of Maysville; two nephews, John S. Ford of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Andrew Duke Ford of Maysville; and a niece, Harriet Ford Grimmer of Mason, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Andrew C. Duke attended Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee, and the University of Kentucky where he was a member of SAE fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Andrew C. Duke will be remembered as an active and involved citizen, and a highly esteemed member of the Mason County community where he was a devout member and elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Maysville; he was the owner and operator of the Duke Tobacco Warehouse Company which provided a valuable service to Mason County and he was president of Duke Storage Company; he served as chairman of the board of the State National Bank Corporation and he also served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Maysville; he was a longtime member and chairman of the Maysville Cemetery Board and a member of the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors; he served as a director of the Kentucky Utilities Company and chairman of the board of Hayswood Hospital; he served as a director of the Red Mile Track and he managed the Tattersalls horse sales in Lexington; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Andrew C. Duke has left a void that can never be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Andrew C. Duke, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Andrew C. Duke brought to this Commonwealth will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue.

Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Andrew C. Duke.

Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mary Louise Henderson Duke, 845 Jersey Ridge Road, Maysville, Kentucky 41056.
