A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of the Georgetown College Men's Basketball Team upon the occasion of winning the 2013 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championship.
WHEREAS, the Georgetown College men's basketball team established itself as a favorite to win the 2013 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship after an impressive regular season with a record of 22-7; and
WHEREAS, despite the pressure and high expectations that came after an exceptional regular season, Coach Chris Briggs and his staff did an outstanding job guiding their team through the tournament and kept their team's eye on the goal of winning the NAIA National Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Georgetown College Tigers almost found themselves knocked out in the semifinals when they needed a last-second shot by Monty Wilson to lift the team to victory over Louisiana State University-Shreveport; and
WHEREAS, the 13th-ranked Georgetown College Tigers survived the brutal 31-game, six-day tournament and won the NAIA National Championship for the first time since 1998 by defeating the Lions of Southwest Assemblies of God University 88-62; and
WHEREAS, the outstanding play of the Georgetown College Tigers throughout the regular season and the NAIA tournament led to Lexington, Kentucky, native Vic Moses being named the NAIA Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the spirited performance of Coach Chris Briggs and the Georgetown College Men's Basketball Team in the NAIA tournament reflects well upon the Commonwealth's proud basketball heritage, and as such, all Kentuckians should be proud of our association with the Tigers of Georgetown College;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
âSection 1. The House of Representatives does hereby honor and recognize the Georgetown College Men's Basketball Team upon the occasion of winning the 2013 NAIA National Championship.
âSection 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and recognition of the Georgetown College Men's Basketball Team.
âSection 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Coach Chris Briggs, 400 East College Street, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324.
