A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor of the Gentleman from Rockcastle 80, Representative Danny Ford, upon the occasion of his retirement from this Honorable Body.

WHEREAS, a native son of Kentucky, Representative Ford began his career working as a realtor and auctioneer with Ford Brothers Incorporated before starting his political career in 1982, representing the citizens of Lincoln, Pulaski, and Rockcastle County as a state representative; and

WHEREAS, for 31 years, Representative Ford has served his constituents and this Honorable Body with integrity and pride; he is respected across party lines, and works tirelessly for the good of the citizens of his community and the Commonwealth of Kentucky; he has been honored as National Republican Legislator of the Year, served as the Minority Whip from 1993-1994, the Minority Floor Leader from 1995-2000, and is again currently the Minority Whip; he has faithfully served on the Appropriations and Revenue Committee, the Banking and Insurance Committee, the Budget Review Subcommittee on Transportation, the Rules Committee, the State Government Committee and the Legislative Research Commission; and

WHEREAS, Representative Ford holds the distinction of being the longest serving representative in the Republican Party since 1900; and

WHEREAS, in his distinguished career, he played integral roles in helping establish the Kentucky Music Museum and Hall of Fame, worked to upgrade Highways 27, 150, and 461, worked to upgrade and improve school facilities, and assisted in bringing public water service to over 96 percent of the 80th legislative district; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his dedicated service in the legislature, Representative Ford is well-known in the community for always helping others and humbly serving his community with involvement in his church, the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, the Somerset Board of Realtors, the Rockcastle County Young Republicans Club, the National Auctioneers Association, the Dix River Board of Realtors, Director of the Somerset-Pulaski County Board of Realtors, and is a member of the National Association of Realtors Federal Coordinator and Contact Team; and

WHEREAS, being accessible to constituents and helping them solve their problems, rather than championing high profile legislation or seeking personal gain or notoriety, is what Representative Ford is most proud of during a career that has spanned seven governors; and

WHEREAS, while his legislative service has come to a close, this public servant will always be guided by the words of George Bernard Shaw, "I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can";

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The House of Representatives takes pause to salute the Gentleman from Rockcastle 80, Representative Danny Ford, upon the occasion of his retirement from this Honorable Body, and expresses its heartfelt gratitude for a lifetime of service to the legislative institution and a grateful Commonwealth.

âSection 2. The members of this Honorable Body extend to Representative Danny Ford best wishes for many years of happiness and good health as he anticipates a bright future with his lovely wife, children, and grandchildren.

âSection 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor of its esteemed colleague and friend, Representative Danny Ford, whose presence and contribution will be sorely missed.
