A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in honor and loving memory of Paul Vernon Graham.
WHEREAS, Paul Vernon Graham was born in Frankfort on November 22, 1927, the son of the late Thomas and Anne Stepp Graham; and
WHEREAS, a 1947 graduate of Frankfort's Mayo-Underwood High School, Mr. Graham proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired employee at the former Stagg Distillery (now Buffalo Trace) and the Kentucky Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham was a supportive member of the Grad Club, VFW Post 9235, and American Legion Post 176; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham was a man of God who devoted his Christian journey to First Baptist Church. Known to say, "The singing is fine, but I came for the Word," he was also a former trustee. He lived his life as the Church would have expected, kind and humble, unselfish and giving; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham loved cooking and crossword puzzles, and he was an avid fisherman, traveling often to Alabama with boat in tow. The sight of him in Frankfort with his beloved dog, Blondie, was common, and over a long and prosperous life, he became one of the most familiar faces in the town he had always called home; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James T. Graham, Sr. He is survived by his children, Tanya G. McGaha, Gregory A. (Gayle) Graham, Representative Derrick W. (Mildred) Graham, and Deborah (Raymond) Scott; his aunt, Blanche Starks; his sister-in-law, Catherine Graham; grandchildren Gary McGaha, Jr., Gabriel McGaha, Lyndsey McGaha, Taylor Graham, Blake Graham, Raymond Scott, Jr., Ashley Scott, and Andrew Scott; his nieces, Theresa Graham and Paula Ann (Roy) Townsend; his nephew, Tom Graham; and many family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Graham departed this earthly life at his home on February 28, 2011, and this Honorable Body mourns his passing while celebrating his full and accomplished life;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
Section 1. The House of Representatives expresses its deepest sympathy for the passing of Paul Vernon Graham, and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, many friends, and his community.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Paul Vernon Graham.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Representative Derrick Graham.
