A long time ago, many people had tried to fly. They made wings and tried to fly but they could not. Then, in 1783 the Montgolfier Brothers made the hot-air balloon in France. The first passengers were a duck, a sheep and a hen.

In 1903, the two American brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, known as the Wright Brothers, built the first plane. This plane flew for twelve seconds.

In 1919, two English pilots, Alcock and Brown, crossed the Atlantic. The flight took sixteen hours.

Today passengers can travel across the Atlantic in four hours on Concorde. A Concorde plane travels faster than sound. It made its first flight in 1969.

Once a boy had an old dog. The dog had few teeth and very bad eyes. The boy said to himself “My dog is very old. I shall take it to the river and kill it”. So he took it to the river and pushed it into the river.

But the dog swam back to the boy. The boy began to push it back into the river. He hit it with a stick. But the boy fell into water. The water was running quickly. The boy couldn’t swim. The boy shouted “Save me! Save me!” But no one heard him. There was no one near.

Then the dog jumped into water. It pulled the boy out of the river. The dog saved the boy. The boy was very happy and thanked the dog. He said to himself “I shall not kill my dog again.’’
