January 2015

A Note From Your Teacher

Welcome back to school! We have missed you during our two-week holiday, and we are eager to jump right back in. Please help your child reacquaint themselves with the routines of school, and the normal home routines during the school week.

A big thank you to all kindergarten families who helped with our Adopt -A-Family Program. This is the true spirit of giving!

Counting to 100!

Starting January 1, we will begin counting the days in 2015 up to day 100. Please count with your child as we will be celebrating when we approach the 100th day!

So why are we counting to 100? We are learning to rote count by ones and then we will be learning to group the numbers by anchors of 5 and 10, which are important in math.

We also will be exploring snow, ice crystals and temperature, reasons why water freezes and snow melts. We will be studying the Science of Winter.

Reminders

* The Kindergarten Team always takes into consideration the temperature and wind chill factor when making decisions about outdoor play. We follow the TDSB guidelines. We consult with our administration and use our professional judgment to determine whether or not to go outside, or modify the length of time the children spend outside. If we can take them outside for even a brief time, we will try to as children need fresh air and exercise daily. We remind you to continue to dress your children appropriately with warm outwear. Please know that our bottom line is ensuring the safety of our students.

* Last month many students have been ill with colds and flu. We suggest parents keep their children at home until they are well enough to participate in all aspects of the FDK program (e.g., outdoor play, Ph/Ed, learning centres ). This also helps to keep all students and staff healthy, happy and well.

Happy New Year!

Best,

Ms. Panova and Ms. Hodge
