May, 2015

A Note from your President:

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mothers and Grandmothers (as well as aunts and sisters that are like Mothers). The biggest event in the last month has been our State Convention. Our own Maureen Kelly has been elected again as our fearless leader! Congratulations also goes to Patty Martin for being chosen Hibernian Woman of the Year. Along with elections and recognitions we also got a lot of business accomplished. The state by-law changes have been proposed and voted on. And there was great comradery and a chance to see some sisters we don’t see often and to meet new one too.

The other BIG event was our dinner show fundraiser. The AOH Hall was turned into a stage at Creaser’s Palace with the talents of Chris Ayotte. We were entertained by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Neil Diamond and of course Elvis. Also we were visited by politicians like, Richard Nixon and JFK all introduced by Johnny Carson. The dinner was excellent and the night was brilliant.

We did get some sad news at our last meeting. The 9:30 mass on May 24, 2015 at St. Pat’s will be the last. Unfortunately the church will be closing. The Senior Center will stay open and will be holding their annual Festival on June 28, 2015. Mary Jo Hodge has secured a date for us to work at one of the St. Pat’s Senior Center dinner. We are giving you loads of time to be sure it is in your calendar since the dates is June 10,.2016.

Heritage Day was discussed and I am putting out the call for help. I will be chairing this project (by default) so I really will need as many people to pitch in and help make it a big success again this year. The tentative date for Heritage Day this year is October 10th. Also our division will be selling Guernsey Ice Cream again at the Motor City Irish Fest (June 19-21). This year we will be order more than last year since we ran out so early. So be sure to get yours early or better yet come have fun and sign up to scoop!

In an effort to get our name out and possibly get more members, the division has a chance to participate in the Memorial Day & Labor Day Parades in Redford. Sue Secorski is talking the helm on this project so let’s give her tons of support.

Just a few thing to remember:

The last fish fry before their break is May 15 but they will return in September. Remember that there is entertainment after the dinner.

The By-laws committee has done a great job of getting the changes sorted out. They will be sent via email to the membership.

Charity poker will be starting up again. It is one of the best fundraisers we have and not a lot of effort. Your hands don’t get cold and sticky and you don’t have to help clean up! Maureen Kelly will be sending out information on how you can volunteer.

So ladies, I know there is a lot of stuff that we are getting involved in and will need help. Please try and participate in ours and the Clubs activities. Thanks for your considerations!

Yours in motto,

,Brigid
