“Celebrating Our 10th Birthday”

A NOTE FROM ANGELA

As we prepare to celebrate the 10th birthday of our WI, perhaps we should each reflect on our ownWI experience. What are the positives? Are there any negatives? What contribution do we each make for the good of all? Are we involved in any of the numerous activities on offer , outside the monthly meetings? Perhaps we could all make a conscious effort to do more - sign up to the rotas, organise a meal, plan an activity or an outing- to help The Heatons WI to continue to flourish in the next decade?

Kind regards,

Angela

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS

Many happy returns to members who celebrate their birthday in May

Sue Johnson, Shirley Shaw, Jane Hoare, Norma Davies

HEATONS NEWS

As a part of our birthday celebrations in June we will be holding a “Guess Who?” quiz. We are asking members to bring in a photograph of themselves aged approximately 10 years. These should be given to Karen by the May meeting at the latest.

The Heatons Choir will be singing at Marbury House on Saturday, 19th May.

Bursaries

It’s bursary time again! What have you always wanted to learn – a new language, a new craft or a new skill? Now’s your chance.

Various bursaries will be made available for members of the Heatons WI to attend educational courses. A draw for the bursaries will be held at the July monthly meeting.

A total sum of £750 has been allocated from our funds for the 2018 bursaries and they will be allocated as follows:-

One Denman bursary to the value of £450, plus six bursaries of £50 each

Please note that, in accordance with the conditions set out below, and devised in previous years, the ladies who won bursaries in the 2016 draw won’t be eligible for this year’s bursaries. However, if you were successful in bursary draws prior to 2016 you may enter this year.

The conditions of bursaries are as follows:-

  • All receipts for the course must be submitted to the Treasurer before the money can be reimbursed. This does not include travel expenses, apart from to Denman.
  • If it is an expensive course, eg Denman College, as soon as the recipient receives the invoice, submit it to the Treasurer and it will be paid to the college from WI funds which will be set against the value of the Bursary.
  • If any expenses exceed the Bursary, they must be paid for by the recipient.
  • The Bursary will be valid for one year after it has been awarded.
  • If the Bursary is shared, the person sharing must be from the Heatons WI.
  • Members receiving the Bursary will not be eligible for the next allocation of bursaries.
  • Members will be invited to give feedback to the WI after they have attended their course.

Make your application now by simply giving your name to Sally, along with the type of course you would like to attend (it doesn’t have to be particularly specific and won’t affect your application), before the start of the monthly meeting on Thursday, 19th July to be in with a chance of your name being drawn.

Details of allDenman courses can be found online at

Members Table-Chris and Lindsey are having a craft sales table at the next meeting. They will be selling handmade greetings cards, craft materials, textile pictures and craft books to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Charlie’s Scout Jamboree. Proceeds will be divided equally between the two.

4 Heatons Summer Festival-Saturday/Sunday, 9th/10th June-We will be selling cakes at this event on Sunday, 10th June from 11-12(proceeds to our WI). We will also be helping to sell the Bakeoff competition cakes from 12.-4 (proceeds to the organisers chosen charity). We would be grateful for any cakes baked and volunteers on the day.
