DAY 40 ANTARTICA

A horizontal radiofrequency line runs across the top of the frame, and continues throughout the interview footage. Close-up still of Barney against a snowy background.

[Barney Swan]

So we just finished a pretty hard day to be honest and the whole team is feeling pretty beat, including myself and it marked the end of Day 40. About to dig into some dinner and just remembering why we’re out here, it sort of hits you, mid-march and you begin to really ask yourself what you are doing out here. You know we’re doing some great stuff with technology and energy, communication but after 40 days of marching across this place you really do have that question come to your mind, what are you really doing out here.

Side view still shot of Barney wearing goggles. Skis and ski poles in the snow behind him.

[Barney Swan]

The conditions today were more white-out and it really just feels like you’re on a treadmill in a Snow Globe just continuing to keep going.

Still shot of two men pulling sleds.

[Barney Swan]

It’s a very weird sensation to go nine hours just in this white, full white, you can’t see the horizon, you can’t make out what’s in front of you two metres and literally just see two people in front of you unless you’re navigating and then it’s really a whole different world.

Still shot of Barney against a snowy background.

[Barney Swan]

But I’m just super grateful for everything that going to be ahead and all the things I’m inspired to do with energy solutions and protecting our planet. Just sending you all the best from down under. Ciao.
