  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the general public and to all members of the CSU Channel Islands Student Government that:

A meeting of the Student Government Senatewill be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2:45 p.m. at California State University Channel Islands, Student Union Conference Room (room 1080), located at One University Drive, Camarillo, CA 93012, to consider and act upon the following matters:

Public Forum

Public forum is intended as a time for any member of the public to address the Senate on issues affecting any student(s) and/or organizations of California State University Channel Islands.

  1. Carla Mena- Asking on behalf of California State Student Association (CSSA) how Student Government defines shared governance?
  2. Senator Hunt asks for shared governance in context
  3. VP Pelayo uses Student Affairs and Student Government working together as shared Governance and to ask Carla Mena for more information
  4. Alexis Mumford recommends President Noyes make appointments for Director of External Affairs and Director of Events
  5. President Noyes did not expect for the Senate to meet quorum today and will not be making appointments.

  2. President Noyes wanted to get some ideas on any resolutions for this year.

1.Senator Hunt yielded his time to Carla Mena.

  • Carla Mena talked about the letter from the Chancellor’s office moving towards releasing detained undocumented.

2.Senator Altman suggested to continue work on center resolution.

  • Point of order by President Noyes, Student Affairs is looking at the Centers on campus. It is a work in progress.

  • Senator Hunt shared his cell phone number with Student Government Members.
  • Senator Sailor shared her cell phone number with Student Government Members.
  • Rogelio Juarez shared his cell phone number with Student Government Members.
  • Noelle Ewing shared her cell phone number and email with Student Government Members.
  • Alexis Mumford shared her cell phone number and email with Student Government Members.
  • Angela Christopher shared her cell phone number and email with Student Government Members.

  1. Student Government Norms – Vice President Pelayo (20 minutes)
  2. Vice President Pelayo explains Norms to members.
  3. Senator Hunt makes a motion to postpone to a definite time, second Student Government meeting on the academic year.
  4. Senator Sailor seconds
  5. Senator Hunt suggests it would be better to have more Student Government members in this discussion.

  7. Motion Passes 3-0-0
  8. Student Government Norms are postponed to the Student Government meeting on Sept. 7.
  9. Food Pantry – Vice President Pelayo (10 minutes)
  • Last Year former President Reyna was working on a food pantry idea. Student Affairs is now working on the issue. It will be a collaboration effort. Vice President Pelayo and Carla Mena are working on a temporary pantry. We are holding off on a discussion on a food pantry. The Acorn Newspaper is asking students about the Food Pantry initiative. We need to be sure we are refraining on answering questions and referring questions to the Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Sawyer.
  • Genesis Delong stated to refer all press inquiries to Nancy Gill.
  • Vice President Pelayo and Carla Mena will be giving updates on the Food Pantry and Cal Fresh.
  • Senator Sailor brought up that Tania Garcia from Alumni and Friends had the idea of professional clothes being donated.
  • President Noyes responded that she was working on this with Career Development Services to have gift cards donated. Not able to accomplish, Student Government is open to the idea of having a professional clothes swap meet in the spring.
