A letter to Parents about “Happy-Reader Program”

Dear Parents,

Till September, 2015, there are nearly 34,000 books in the library, among which more than 11,000 are original English version books. More books will be updated to the database.

The discussion about the “Happy-Reader Program” took place at the beginning of 2010. This program is different from the “Read-A-Thong”. The introduction of the new plan is shown below.

The Purpose of “Happy-Reader Program”

Reading is an essential way to acquire knowledge, know the world, and sharpen thoughts. Interest is the fundamental element for most of the successful people around the world. Interest can provide kids with joy and can drive kids further on their way of learning. Out of the concerns for the growth of every kid, the school’s objective is to encourage students to be book lovers. As a learning-driven school, we come to utilize this to improve the learning capacity of your kids. Parents are welcome to take part in “Happy-Reader Program”, so that kids’ reading habit

can be built up.

  1. Three fundamental goals

The first goal is to grow the kids’ reading habits. Through reading, kids can improve their reading and learning skills. Hopefully, they will take an interest in reading over their whole life time.

The second goal is to improve the teaching and professional skills through the reading program.

The third goal is to build up a good atmosphere in the school for reading and learning. The students can pick up good reading habits in the reading environment. Meanwhile, the evaluation system of the school and educational quality should become better. Being a school of good readers, we can successfully live up to the high standard that has been established.

  1. Suggestions for the parents
  2. To motivate kids to read, parents should set a good example of reading for the kids. Parents may encourage kids to read, but shouldn’t force kids to read.
  3. Parents may have 10-20 mins bed-time story for the lower graders.
  4. Parents and kids may exchange the information about books.
  5. Parents may read 1 or 2 books with your kids each semester, and discuss the events that happened in the books.
  6. Reading habits aren’t built in a day. They require the parents’ constant effort.
  7. Parents should tell the kids to look after the books from school library, and return them on time.
  8. Parents may encourage the kids to write a composition using the words and phrases from the book after they have finished reading it. Any compositions written by the children and received by the librarians will be published on the school website.
  9. Parental Participation
  10. Recommend good books for kids in different levels and ages.
  11. Apply to be a volunteer for the library. The library would be very appreciative if you could help update the information for the database and perform daily routines.
  12. Reading Goals and Evaluation
