A JOINT RESOLUTION designating a portion of Kentucky Route 1807 in Leslie County as the "Jordan Melton Memorial Highway."

WHEREAS, Jordan Melton was born on October 11, 1994 to Randy and Karri Melton of Wooten Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Melton was a senior at Leslie County High School and linebacker for three years for the football team; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Melton was a valued member of Upper Grassy Branch Pentecostal Church; and

WHEREAS, in his free time Jordan Melton enjoyed working on and restoring classic cars and riding motorcycles; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Melton enjoyed spending time with his beloved girlfriend Samantha; and

WHEREAS, in the summer of 2012, Jordan Melton was diagnosed with a rare, devastating form of cancer, clear-cell sarcoma; and

WHEREAS, on February 24, 2013 Jordan Melton traversed these earthly bounds at the tender age of 18 leaving, for family and friends, a void that can never be filled; and

WHEREAS, Jordan Melton was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elbert Melton; and uncle, Elbert Melton, Jr., he is survived by his loving parents, Randall and Karri Flower Melton; sister, Kourtney Melton; grandparents, Andrea Melton and Vickie and Jr. Bowman; girlfriend, Samantha Couch; Samantha's parents and family, Rick and Nancy Couch, Nick Couch, Jamie and Heather Couch, Jaxton Couch and Jaylee Couch; aunts and uncles, Mike and Jean Melton, Doug and Betty Melton, Carter and Samantha Melton, Phyllis and Fred Shepherd, Shannon and Darrell Caudill and Scott and Maggie Flower; and a host of other family members, friends, and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly collectively and individually seeks to honor the life and memory of Jordan Melton through this designation;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Transportation Cabinet is hereby directed to designate Kentucky Route 1807 in Leslie County, at its intersection with Kentucky Route 80 to the end of state maintenance, as the "Jordan Melton Memorial Highway," and shall, within 30 days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect appropriate signs denoting this designation.
