For our businesses to succeed, we need a vibrant business environment that supports women business owners (WBOs) and its communities. We ask
- How can we re-invent our communities, government, and organizations for the 21st century to achieve a better balance between prevailing business values and our personal and societal needs?
- How can we better nourish the human spirit in ourselves and the people and communities around us?
- How can we renew our commitment to developing the potency of people, the manifestation of spirit in the work community, and the stewardship of life?
We rely on many aspects of our local environment that are sometimes taken for granted. We are taking the time to express our appreciation of women who have made significant contributions to ensuring that we work together to build a sustainable environment that benefits all.
Sustainable Leadership captures the essence of the qualities we plan to honor. Sustainable leaders are role models whose behaviors demonstrate the best qualities of leadership and sustainability as defined in the following.
- Leadership: Demonstrates creativity through the competencies of: strategic thinking, achieving, self-awareness, relating to others, and authenticity (see for more information).
- Sustainable: Meeting the needs and expectations of a community’s or an organization’s present and future members and leaving the world better than it is.
“How can the present generation meet its needs in ways that are not only economically viable, environmentally sound and socially equitable but that also allow future generations to do the same?” From the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development (The Brundtland Commission), Our Common Future, 1987
