Table S1Amplification conditions for each of the primer pairs. All PCRs were performed in 10 µL volumes with final concentrations of 1X reaction buffer (New England Biolabs), 200 µM dNTPs, 0.4 µg µL-1 BSA, 0.1 µM primer, 0.5 U Taqpolymerase (New England Biolabs), and 0.1 µL of 700 or 800 nm IRdye. MgCl2 concentrations and PCR programs differed between primer sets. PCR program (A) 3 min denaturation (Td; 94 °C), followed by 2 min annealing (Ta; see table) and extension (Te; 72 °C), then 34 cycles of 35 s Td, 60 s Ta and 75 s Te, finished by 10 min Te. PCR program (B) 4 min Td, followed by 12 cycles of 30 s Td, 30 s Ta with -0.5 °C per cycle, 30 s Te, then 28 cycles of 30 s Td, 30 s Ta (59 °C), and 30 s Te, finished by 10 min Te.Na; number of observed alleles.

Table S2Linkage disequilibrium test results for each pair of loci at Cabo Cope. Roca de l’Illot could not be tested due to a lack of genetic variation. We used the log likelihood ratio statistic (α = 0.05) on the GENEPOP website [http://genepop.curtin.edu.au/],with a Markov chain with 10,000 dememorization steps and 1000 batches with 10,000 iterations each (Raymond and Rousset 1995; Rousset 2008).

Table S3 Satellite data for environmental variables at the core site (Cabo Cope) and expansion site (Roca de l'Illot). Data for temperature, PAR and chlorophyll a were provided by the US NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Ocean Ecology Laboratory, Ocean Biology and downloaded for the period 2003–2015 from OceanColor Web [ (Acker and Leptoukh 2007). One-way ANOVAs were employed to test for significant differences () between Cabo Cope and Roca de l’Illot (α = 0.01). Only mean values were available for phosphate, nitrate and nitrite concentrations at the study sites (Bio-ORACLE database; Tybergheim et al. 2011).
