1.4 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

C. Installation Details: Details shall include edge conditions, panel profiles, trim, flashings, and other accessories.

D. Paint Finish Warranty: Project information sheet and warranty applications shall be completed and submitted by installer prior to the issuance of the warranty.

E. Selection Samples: For each finish product specified, two complete sets of color chips representing manufacturer's full range of available colors and patterns.

F. Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square, representing actual product, color, and patterns to be signed and approved by owner / specifier.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer's responsibilities shall include installing metal roof panel assemblies in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

B. Pre-Installation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site or at specified location with the Architect and Contractor.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store products in a safe area, off the ground high enough to allow for air circulation underneath and to prevent rising water from contacting products. If covered, allow for air circulation between draped edges of tarpaulin and slightly elevated on one side as to allow for proper drainage, until ready for installation. Prolonged storage is not recommended.

B. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

B. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

2.2 CONCEALED FASTENER METAL ROOFING SYSTEM

A. Standing Seam Metal Roof Panels:

1. Product: SMI 2.0 SCH MS Standing Seam Metal Roofing System.

2. Minimum Slope: 05/12. In accordance with ASTM E 2140 or 2/12 in accordance with ASTM E 1646.

3. Profile: Mechanical seam 180 degrees, 0.023 min inch (0.61 mm) nominal thick.

4. Panel Top Coat: Fluropon two coat PVDF resin system with total dry film thickness of 1 mil ± .01 mil.

5. Backer Finish: White or light-colored polyester backer finish.

6. Panel Coverage: 18.75 inches (476 mm).

7. Panel Height: 2 inch (51 mm)

8. Uplift Rating: UL 580, UL 1897.

9. Water Penetration: ASTM E 1646.

10. Static Water Pressure Head (Submersion): ASTM E 2140

11. Air Infiltration: ASTM E 1680

12. Clip: Float clip with 16ga base and 22ga tab per the manufacturers engineering report.

13. Flashings: Provide flashings fabricated of same gauge and color metal as metal roof panels.

2.3 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS

A.  Sharkskin Ultra SA Multilayer Laminated Ice and Water Shield Design, Self-Adhering : 25 mils thick minimum with release-paper backing. 100% polypropylene based, 12 month UV exposure rated, thermally stable, -50 – 230 degrees F, high tensile strength reinforced self-adhered/peel and stick ice and water membrane roof underlayment. REQUIRED FOR WEATHERTIGHT WARRANTIES.

B.  Sharkskin Ultra Multilayer Laminated Polypropylene Design : 100% polypropylene based, 12 month UV exposure rated, thermally stable with an average melting point of 320 degrees F., a high tensile strength reinforced roof underlayment.

C.  Sharkskin Comp Multilayer Laminated Polypropylene Design : 100% polypropylene based, 6 month UV exposure rated, thermally stable with an average melting point of 320 degrees F., roof underlayment.

2.4 SUBSTRATE DECK

A. 22 gauge B-Deck.

2.5 ACCESSORIES

A. Sheffield Metals International offers a full line of accessories for the installation of the Standing Seam Metal Roof System.

B. Kynar Paint Pen: Field touchup for minor scratches on trim and panels.

2.6 FABRlCATlON

A. Sheet Metal Accessories: Fabricate flashing and trim to comply with recommendations in Sheffield Metals Internationals Details that apply to the design, dimensions, metal, and other characteristics of items indicated.

PART 2 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B. If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Deck Attachment:

1. Follow the manufacturer’s Engineering Report for specifications for deck attachment.

2. Re-roofing, where the deck is less than minimum consult the manufacturer.

B. Substrate: 22 gauge B-Deck .

1. Attachment: See the manufacturer’s Engineering Report for size and spacing of fasteners.

C. Install flashings and other sheet metal to comply with requirements specified in Section "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim" or per the manufacturer’s recommended installation details.

D. ACQ / Pressure Treated Lumber: Do not install steel or aluminum roof systems over ACQ / Pressure Treated Lumber without consulting panel manufacturer regarding proper installation procedures and requirements.

3.3 UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION

A. Sharkskin Ultra SA - Self-Adhering Sheet Underlayment: Install Sharkskin Ultra SA self-adhering sheet underlayment, wrinkle free, on roof sheathing under metal roof panels. Comply with temperature restrictions of underlayment, refer to manufacturer for installation procedures. REQUIRED FOR WEATHERTIGHT WARRANTIES.

B. Sharkskin Ultra Synthetic Underlayment: Install Sharkskin Synthetic underlayment sheet , wrinkle free, on roof sheathing under metal roof panels in accordance with the manufacturers recommended installation procedures.

C. Sharkskin Comp Synthetic Underlayment: Install Sharkskin Synthetic underlayment sheet, wrinkle free, on roof sheathing under metal roof panels in accordance with the manufacturers recommended installation procedures.

3.4 METAL ROOF PANEL INSTALLATION, GENERAL

A. Provide components required for a complete metal roof panel assembly including trim, copings, fascia, corner units, Z closures, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers and similar items. Match material and finish of metal roof panels, unless otherwise indicated.

1. Flashing: Provide flashing at eaves, valleys, sidewalls, headwalls, rakes, transitions, hips and ridges fabricated of same metal as metal roof panels.

B. General: Provide metal roof panels of full length from eave to ridge. Anchor metal roof panels and other components of the work securely in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement.

1. Field cutting of metal roof panels by torch, plasma cutter or saw blade is not permitted.

2. Mechanically fasten ridge end of metal roof panels and allow eave end free movement due to thermal expansion and contraction.

3. Provide metal Z closures at high-side eave, rake edges, rake walls, each side of ridge and hip caps and any other area indicated in the manufacturer’s installation details.

4. Lap metal flashing over metal roof panels to allow moisture to run over and off the material.

C. Fasteners: Use #12 by 1 inch (25mm) pancake head self-drilling fastener per the manufacturer’s engineering report.

D. Metal Protection: Where dissimilar metals will contact each other or corrosive substrates, protect against galvanic reaction by painting contact surfaces with bituminous coating, by applying rubberized-asphalt underlayment to each contact surface, or by other permanent separation as recommended by metal roof panel manufacturer. Fasteners used shall be Stainless Steel.

3.5 FIELD-ASSEMBLED METAL ROOF PANEL INSTALLATION

A. Metal Roof Panels: Fasten metal roof panels to solid substrate with concealed clips per the manufacturer’s engineering report or engineer recommendation based on project location and wind load requirements.

1. Clip Spacing: 24 inches (610 mm) or per job specific engineering if required.

2. Install clips to deck with two #12 by 1 inch (25 mm) self-drilling pancake head fasteners.

3. Lap female side of panel over clip and male side of panel. Hand seam panels 90 degrees at clip locations and then use a robotic seamer to seam the panels to a full 180 degrees.

B. Metal Soffit Panel: Provide metal soffit panels full width of soffits. Install panels perpendicular to support framing.

1. Flash and seal panels with weather closures where metal soffit panels meet walls and at perimeter of all openings.

3.6 ACCESSORY INSTALLATION

A. General: Install accessories with positive anchorage to building and weathertight mounting and provide for thermal expansion. Coordinate installation with flashings and other components.

1. Install components required for a complete metal roof panel assembly including trim, copings, seam covers, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers and similar items.

2. Comply with performance requirements and manufacturer's written installation instructions. Provide concealed fasteners where possible, and set units true to line and level as indicated. Install work with laps, joints, and seams that will be permanently watertight and weather resistant.

3. Provide elbows at base of downspouts to direct water away from building.

4. Tie downspouts to underground drainage system indicated.

3.7 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Remove temporary protective coverings and strippable films if applicable as metal roof panels are installed, unless otherwise indicated in manufacturer's written installation instructions. On completion of metal roof panel installation, clean finished surfaces as recommended by metal roof panel manufacturer. Maintain in a clean condition during construction.

B. To prevent rust staining, remove any fillings caused by drilling or cutting immediately from finished surfaces.
