A. Applications of Overseas Cypriots for Cypriot Citizenship


Applications M. 70 or M. 71

May be submitted by persons of Cypriot origin (NB: their father is a Cypriot citizen) who were born before 16/08/1960 and are citizens of the United Kingdom and its former colonies. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  The applicant’s birth certificate.

(b)  The applicant’s father’s birth certificate.

(c)  A photocopy of the applicant’s passport.

(d)  A photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €3.42 in fees.

(e)  A stamp of the value of €1.71 must be attached to the application.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €5.13 [€3.42 in fees + €1.71 (stamp)]

Application M. 121

May be submitted by minors or adults (over the age of 18) who were born after 16/08/1960 and their father -at the time of the applicant’s birth- was a Cypriot citizen, as well as individuals who were born after 11/6/1999 and their mother -at the time of the applicant’s birth- was a Cypriot citizen. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  The applicant’s birth certificate.

(b)  The applicant’s parents’ marriage certificate.

(c)  A photocopy of the applicant’s passport and his/ her parents’ passports.

(d)  Certificate of registration of the Cypriot parent.

(e)  Photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €3.42 in fees.

(f)  A stamp of the value of €8.54 must be attached to the application.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €11.96 [€3.42 in fees + €8.54 (stamp)] + Note 2 & 4 if applicable (see below)

Notes:

1.  Applications for minors are signed by the Cypriot parent or legal guardian, adult applicants are required to sign their own application.

2.  The fees paid to the Embassy/ Consulate apply to the hand-written consular birth certificate. For the issuance of an electronic birth certificate a further amount of €3.42 must be paid and a seperate receipt (F18) should be issued (the wording on the second receipt must state clearly that the specific fees have been submitted for the issuance of an electronic birth certificate). Only once the Civil Registry and Migration Department has received the aforementioned receipt, will it proceed with the issuance of an electronic birth certificate.

3.  For the issuance of an ID Card or Passport, the previous issuance of an electronic birth certificate is a prerequisite.

4.  In the event that a parental marriage certificate (issued in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus) is submitted, a statement of recognition of fatherhood by the father and a statement of consent for the recognition of fatherhood by the mother is necessary. Each statement should be endorsed with a stamp of the value of €1.71.

Application M. 123

May be submitted by an adult individual born after 16/08/1960 who is a decendant of an individual granted British citizenship under the Cyprus’ Annexation Council Decrees of 1914-1943 or an individual born in Cyprus after 5/11/1914 and prior 16/08/1960. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  The applicant’s birth certificate.

(b)  The applicant’s parents marriage certificate.

(c)  A photocopy of the applicant’s passport and his/ her parents passports.

(d)  Certificate of registration of the Cypriot parent.

(e)  Photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €25.63 in fees.

(f)  The application is submitted in duplicate and two stamps of the value of €8.54 must be attached to one of the applications.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €42.71 [€25.63 in fees + €17.08 (two stamps of €8.54 each)]

Application M. 125

May be submitted by foreign spouses of Cypriot citizens after completing 3 years of marriage in harmonious cohabitation. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  The applicant’s birth certificate.

(b)  Certificate of Good Character of the applicant (issued by the police authorities in the applicant’s place of permanent residence).

(c)  Marriage certificate.

(d)  Birth certificates of the couples’ offspring (if they have any).

(e)  A photocopy of the applicant’s passport.

(f)  Certificate of registration of the Cypriot spouse.

(g)  Photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €170.86 in fees

(h)  A certificate of harmonious cohabitation of the two spouses signed in front of a Consular officer.

(i)  A letter prepared by the married couple explaining the reasons for applying for Cypriot citizenship for the foreign spouse.

(j)  The application is submitted in duplicate and two stamps of the value of €8.54 must be attached to one of the applications.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €187.94 [€170.86 in fees + €17.08 (two stamps of €8.54 each)]

Notes:

1.  In the event that the couple has completed five (5) years of marriage and have at least one child together, the letter mentioned in point (i) is not necessary.

Application M. 126

Submitted on behalf of a minor born before 11/06/1999 either in Cyprus or abroad by a Cypriot mother and a foreign citizen father, or a minor whose father received Cypriot citizenship after his/her birth. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  The applicant’s birth certificate.

(b)  The applicant’s parents’ marriage certificate.

(c)  A photocopy of the applicant’s passport and his/ her parents’ passports.

(d)  Certificate of registration of the Cypriot parent.

(e)  Photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €51.26 in fees.

(f)  A stamp of the value of €8.54 must be attached to the application.

(g)  A statement of consent allowing for the minor to acquire Cypriot citizenship by the foreign parent signed in front of a Consular officer. The statement should be endorsed with a stamp of the value of €1.71.In the event that the Cypriot parent has (by judicial decree) sole custody of the minor, the aforementioned statement is not required. However a photocopy of the said juducial decree should be attached to the minor’s application.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €59.80 [€51.26 in fees + €8.54 (stamp)] + [(g) if applicable – see above]

B. Application for the Renunciation of Cypriot Citizenship

Application M. 130

May be submitted by Cypriot citizens who have already acquired the citizenship of another state and wish to renunce their Cypriot citizenship. The application should be accompanied by the following:

(a)  A certificate or affirmation from the Embassy/ High Commission of the state (other than Cyprus) that the applicant bears the nationality, stating clearly that the applicant is a citizen of that state. Please note that a copy of a passport or identity card issued by another country is not sufficient proof of foreign citizenship.

(b)  Photocopy of the receipt of payment (F18) for the equivalent amount of €17.10 in fees.

(c)  The application is submitted in duplicate and one stamp of the value of €8.54 must be attached to one of the applications.

i.e. Total amount to be collected €25.54 [€17.10 in fees + €8.54 (stamp)]

General Notes:

The accompanying documents for all of the above applications must be duly notarized, i.e. they must bear the “Apostile” stamp if they originate from countries party to the Hague Convention, or else be notarized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of issuance (of the document) and the competent Diplomatic Mission of the Republic of Cyprus in the aforementioned country.

Documents issued by the competent authorities of the Republic of Cyprus are not required to be notarized.

Photocopies of Passports need not be notarized, however the original passport must be presented to the Embassy/ Consulate in order for the Consular officer to verify its authenticity and stamp the photocopy/ photocopies with the Embassy/ Consulate’s seal.

Incomplete applications or applications missing copies of receipt of fee payment (F18) will be returned unexamined.
