Parent-Staff Communication
Please do not hesitate to contact the school staff via phone or email regarding any comment, question, or concern that you may have.
v All teachers and administrators have an individual phone number with voice mail. Building staff check messages daily. Please note that teacher voicemail is not intended to address immediate needs or to share communication between parents and students. Parent messages that require immediate attention, such as a change in dismissal plans, should be directed to theYoung office at 375-3800.
v If your message is informational in nature, or you have a question for the teacher, call the teacher’s number and leave a voicemail that includes your name, message and phone number, so he/she may respond as promptly as possible. Please note that teacher messages are not checked until after the students’ dismissal or possibly the next morning.
v Young staff members can also be reached by e-mail. The e-mail address for any staff member is firstname_last . To check the spelling of a name, you can check our website: http://young.ipsd.org/Staff.aspx
Teacher email is checked on a daily basis. If a message requires immediate attention please contact the main office.
v Meetings or conferences can be arranged with the teacher as needed. If you have a concern or question and you are in need of a face-to-face meeting, it is best to contact your child’s teacher directly via note, phone, or e-mail to schedule a conference. This allows you to establish a time to meet without interruption. It is important to schedule a time because our staff are engaged in meetings or assisting students immediately before or after school.

A Few Reminders
Visiting the School
Please remember to bring your photo ID with you when visiting the school. A photo ID is required for everyone visiting and volunteering at the school. The office staff will use the Raptor System to scan visitor’s IDs and will keep your ID while you are in the building. Additional information about the Raptor System can be found at http://young.ipsd.org/News.aspx?id=57025.
Early Dismissals
We understand that at times it is necessary to pick your child(ren) upbefore the end of the school day at 3:35 pm. We ask that you pick up your child before 3:15 pm. The front parking lot is closed to cars at 3:15 due to the arrival of busses. The dismissal process in the building begins at 3:15 which makes it difficult to pull students for leaving early.
Health Issues and Medical Excusals
Please make sure that notes regarding your student’s health issues or medical excusals from PE or Recess are addressed to the Classroom Teacher and Mrs. Simpkin, the school nurse.
Student Birthdays and Parties
Due to student food allergies, edible birthday treats are not allowed for student birthdays. Parents interested in recognizing student birthdays are welcome to donate a birthday book or game to the classroom. Please note that any birthday activity or contribution is completely optional.
Birthday party invitations cannot be distributed at school, unless there is a birthday party invite for all students in the classroom. This helps to avoid hurt feelings which can result for those children who do not receive an invitation.
Y Safe and Sound Program
