Travel Agent

You are a travel agent. Your assignment is to put together a vacation package for your client/teacher. Follow the requirements of your client below and answer all questions.

Client Wish:

· I want to go to London, England for a week. Every airport has an abbreviation (Philadelphia airport would be PHL. There are several airports in London but if you just type in LON it will access all the available airports in and around London).

· When? From the first Saturday in July to the second Saturday in July

· I will be traveling alone. Find me the best vacation rate (round trip airfare of course).

Things I need:

· Non-Stop airfare

· 5 star hotel

· Suggest one tourist activity in that area – do not include this in my package price

You may look up travel sites in your search engine (Travelocity, Orbitz, Cheaptickets, Expedia, Hotwire, Kayak, Tripadvisor etc.) but compare different sites for the best price. For comparison purposes airline prices should include airport fees and taxes.

Step One: Go to one of the above travel sites and fill in the necessary information for air fare only. Start with Philadelphia airport (PHL) as my departure airport.

What travel search engine did you use?_______

How much would the cheapest airfare only trip cost? ________

Step Two: Choose two other different travel search engines.

What other travel search engines did you use?____________, ____________.

What travel search engine site was the cheapest? __________ and how much would the cheapest airfare only trip cost? ________

Step Three: Using the cheapest travel site, price the trip with the hotel included in the price (a package offered by the travel search engine). Now what is the price with the hotel & airfare package? _________

Step Four: See if you can find the hotel web site by itself and price your stay separately from your airline ticket. How much would your hotel stay cost by itself? _$______ x number of nights = ________. Now add this price to what you had in step two and what do you have? ________ Compare this price to the package price in step three. Which is the cheapest way – packaged deal or priced separately? ________________

What would the cheapest total price be then thus far? _______________

Step Five: Now that you know what airline you wish to use, find that airline’s website and price your ticket through them instead of a travel site. Compare this price with the price you got in step two.

Underline which price is the cheapest? Travel search engine or Airline direct?

Now what is you cheapest total price including air and hotel? __________

Step Six: Use the best way to get the best price from what you’ve learned above except now use a different airport. I am willing to leave from any of the following:

What would hotel & flight cost from:

EWR (Newark this is in New Jersey) _________

What would hotel & flight cost from:

JFK (this is in New York) __________

What would hotel & flight cost from:

PHL (Philadelphia) __________

Would my trip be any cheaper if I left from one of these other airports? _____ If so what would my new cheapest total price (that includes the hotel stay) be?

Airfare plus hotel grand total = $____________

Step Seven:

· Name the Hotel where I’ll be staying: ______________________

You must come up with a reasonable price or I will not count your work. You must do all the comparisons I’ve asked you for or I will not count your work. This assignment is worth a test grade.

Step Eight:

Itinerary: (Itinerary means what is the plan) fill out the plan below

Leaving for London: Departure airport: _________ Airline: _______ Departure time: _____ Arrival in London time: _______ London airport name: __________

Returning home from London: Departure airport: _________ Airline: _______ Departure time: _____ Arrival back in the U.S. time: _______ U.S. arrival airport name: _________

Lastly, find a tourist activity that I can do while in London. Explain it and paste the website so I can check it out myself.
