Friday: Blind Sort

Wednesday: Assessment/Journal Due

As you study your word study features you need to sort your words everyday! Even if you choose to complete assignments on alternative days, you need to be sorting EVERYDAY!!!

Descriptions

Open Sort/Record: Students choose categories and sort words. Can be concepts or features. Once sort is determined copy words in proper categories into journal.

Reflect: Students look at the sort of the week and restate the sort in their own words, being sure to explain the reason why the categories tie to together.

Sentences: Write sentences for at least 10 words. All sentences must contain at least 10 words minimum.

Syllables: Write all spelling words, then write word again dividing it into syllables.

Ex: Monday Mon-day

Blind Sorts: Use given guide-words and as a partner calls the words to you, write them under the appropriate category. (with a signature)

Assessment: Otherwise known as your “weekly spelling test

Free Choice Activities


Synonym/Antonym: Use a thesaurus to write a synonym and antonym for each word.
Backwards Words: Write each of words backward and then forward
Parts of Speech: Using a dictionary, look up your spelling words. Write the word and the part of speech.
SAW: Sort, Alphabetize, and Write
Repeat Writing: Write all words 5 times.
