Using the Find option will help you locate a word in the document. The Replace option will allow you to replace the word you found in the document with a changed or new word.
Where are the Find and Replace Options Located:
While you are in the document…
make sure you are on the Home tab, the Find and Replace are located on the far right of the ribbon.
To Find a word simply click on the Find option in the ribbon.
This is where you type in the word that you want to find in your document.
Once you have typed in the word you want to find, you need to decide what you would like to replace it with.
In my example, I typed in the word “and”, now I need to click on the Replace tab in the box to type in what I want to have and replaced with.
After clicking on the Replace tab your screen will look like this…
Now you need to decide what to replace your word with. You can simply pick another word and type it in the Replace with: box. I could just type in the word, then click Replace all.
Sometime this feature is nice, but if I have any words that have the letters and in them such as wand, band, sand they will all change to: walso, balso, and salso. In order to find only the whole word and replace just the word and and not words with and in them you need to click on the More option box at the bottom of the box.
Once you click on the More option you will get a larger box with more options at the bottom. At this screen you can choose to be very specific in what words you will replace.
The two that we use the most and you need to know…
Match Case – Will only replace a word that has the exact matching upper and lowercase letters.
Find whole words only – Will only find the word on its own, not within a word, and replace it.
Find a word that has formatting and replacing a word you have formatted.
If you have a word that is bold or italicized that you would like to find, find and replace has a place for you to also select those options.
On the Find screen you can choose to only find the word and that is bold, so in the screen below here is where you would choose that option.
Once you click on the Format option, you get a list…
By choosing the Font… option you will get wet another screen that lets you make any changes to the test that you are searching for. For our example we are looking for a bold and italicized word and, here is where you see what formatting options we have selected.
You have the same options when you replace a word. You can simply Find the word and to replace it with a bold and. Again you choose the Format option at the bottom, select Font.. and make any changes.
Once you have made your changes you will also see the Format listed below.
