Dear Fifth Grade Families:

The sixth grade teachers at Fords Middle School would like to extend our congratulations to you and your young learners as you reach this milestone achievement. The promotion to middle school can be exhilarating, but also comes with heightened responsibility. While we are all anxiously awaiting a restful, educational, and enjoyable summer, it is never too early to start thinking about the new opportunities that lie ahead. Becoming a successful middle school student starts with being prepared. Below, you will find a recommended list of some of the most common supplies that the teachers in sixth grade will be looking for during the first days of school in September. Take advantage of the many school supply sales over the summer to ensure that your child is ready for the upcoming year.

Notebooks

3 marble (Reading, Writing, Science)

5 one-subject (History, Foreign Language, Health, Art, Computer)

Storage and Note-Taking

1 2” three-ring binder

1 package of insertable pocket tab dividers (8+)

Insertable white lined paper

1 pack of highlighters

In addition, we will be reading two required novels together in school throughout the school year. These novels are NOT to be read during the summer. While these can be borrowed for use at school, feel free to purchase a personal copy for your child, as the school copies are generally not available to be taken home for use outside of the classroom.
