The purpose of this program is to introduce boys and girls (ages 8 to 14) to fitness and competition while running for fun. A coaching manual has been designed to help coaches develop a training program that will prepare the students to run a 1.6 K or a 5K race at the 26th Annual Kaiser Permanente Southern California Half Marathon & 5K event. The training manual can be accessed at www.schalfmarathon.com.

This year’s race will take place on January 7, 2017at 8:00 a.m. in Irvine on a flat course. All youngsters who participate in our “KROC4FUN” program will receive the race’s special T-shirt and finishing medal, have the opportunity to earn mileage certificates (50, 100, 150, 200, etc.) from your school and earn individual and team awards while competing against other runners of their own age and schools from Orange County.

The fitness/preparation program outlined in the Training Manual (www.schalfmarathon.com) is designed to utilize existing physical education classes/periods, elective and after school programs to offer elementary and middle school students an introduction to running and a base for fitness.

If you and your staff decide to participate in this program and in our event, please contact George Varvas (949.632.4327 OR ) for instructions on how to register your students in our race(s). The special $15.00 entry fee is good only if you pre-register your team for this race. Your students can run the 5K ($25.00) or the 1.6 K ($15.00) race. This special entry fee is only available to your students and staff leaders with pre-registration and mailed-in entries.

Thank you for your support of our efforts with the youngsters in our County. We hope to see your school at our event.
