Jennifer Rice

A former elementary school teacher in Tacoma, Wash., is behind bars for allegedly kidnapping and raping her 10-year-old student numerous times.

Jennifer Rice, 31, is said to have met the fourth-grade boy shortly after being hired last year as a replacement teacher at McKinley Elementary School.

She was taken into custody Saturday and booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of kidnapping, five counts of first-degree child rape, and four counts of child molestation.

Rice pleaded not guilty yesterday as she's being held on $500,000 bail.

Police documents indicate Rice took the boy with her when she left a party in his East Tacoma neighborhood around 3 a.m. Thursday. Authorities claim the two were headed for an amusement park in Idaho when they stopped at a rest area, napped and then had sex.

The documents also say the boy's father told police he had asked Rice to stay away from his son a month ago when he became concerned about the interest Rice showed in his son. The father says Rice had been to their house to watch movies with the boy, had taken him on trips, and chatted often with him on the phone as well as Internet.

The boy's family reportedly called Rice as soon as they discovered the child was missing. According to police, Rice told them she had not seen the boy, though the child called family members a short time later to let them know he was safe.

Prosecutors say the boy was then dropped off at his uncle's house in Puyallup, Wash., after police told Rice an Amber Alert was being issued, with information on her vehicle.

Officials say Rice admitted she raped the boy at the rest stop before driving him back, and court documents indicate the pair had intercourse several times on previous occasions, including once in the boy's home.

According to the Tacoma School District, Rice was hired last October and placed on leave in April. Her contract was not renewed after McKinley Elementary received complaints she was socializing inappropriately with students.

Rice is just the latest case in a national "sexpidemic" of women teachers having sex with their students, as WND has been documenting.
