Activate / The teacher will distribute index cards containing clues for particular reference materials. For example: I need to find a word that means the same thing as happy. Where do I look? - Another student would have: I am a thesaurus. The students will find their reference material partner.

Teaching / The teacher will distribute a scavenger hunt sheet. Students will need to identify which reference resource they would need to find in order to answer the questions on the hunt. The teacher will then divide the students into teams. The teams will compete against one another in a game of reference material Jeopardy (http://www.quia.com/cb/463422.html).

Summarize / The teacher will distribute three post-it notes to each student. The students will write “dictionary”, “thesaurus”, and “glossary” – one for each note. The student will then write one fact that is true of each particular reference material, and then place their post-it in the appropriate category on an anchor chart in the classroom.
