R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Southlake Carroll High School Dragons have attained the pinnacle of success, winning the 1992 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 3A football championship and claiming their second such title in five years; and

WHEREAS, Completing the regular season with their sixth consecutive 10‑0 record, a feat unequalled in Texas high school football history, the Dragons carried the number one state ranking into their first playoff contest in which they crushed outmanned Eastland 61‑7; and

WHEREAS, Taking the field against Reagan County, Southlake Carroll again dominated the opponent, winning 50‑14 to take the area crown; and

WHEREAS, Although Vernon provided a stern test, this determined Dragon squad fought its way to a 39‑35 victory and continued its march through the playoffs; and

WHEREAS, In a remarkable exhibition of gridiron precision, the Dragons shut out Alpine 61‑0 to take the Region I championship; and

WHEREAS, The state semifinal matchup pitted the Dragons against Gainesville, and Southlake Carroll put on a textbook demonstration of dominance both offensively and defensively en route to a 63‑7 win; and

WHEREAS, Determined to duplicate the success of the 1988 Southlake Carroll squad, this magnificent Dragon team seized the 3A crown with a 48‑0 victory over Coldspring, completing the season with a perfect 16‑0 record while scoring 803 points, the second highest point total in Texas high school football history; and

WHEREAS, The season's outstanding achievements were the result of a total team effort and selfless contributions throughout the year from members Scott Bratcher, Zack Stewart, Craig Frost, Kirk Holifield, Dane Johnson, Jared Pipher, Mike Lawlor, Brian Nimphius, Will Mantooth, Luis Mendoza, Curtis Pinson, Stephen Moreland, Larry Marquez, Derek Walton, Chad Voller, Kyle Smith, Tim Watkins, Todd McGrath, Adam Abitz, Brent Bohnsack, Mark Byarly, Jeff Croy, Steven Jacobsen, Kris Brown, John Lineberger, Craig Sisk, Toby Cotton, Bryan Gilmore, Judd Crowder, John Fox, Rex Fryhover, Joel Holmes, David Janbaz, David Reck, Kris Stacy, Brice LeBlanc, Jeromy Denton, Joseph Stanyer, Ryan Boyle, Brian Hatcher, Brandon Story, Clay Colins, Marc Thompson, Chad Heiser, John Baker, Shannon McKean, Trevor Sisco, Joel Turner, Jason Moreland, Eric Reed, Brian Kichan, Mark Herron, Brad Davis, Jeff Edgington, Derek Sargent, Jason Boyd, Jason Gilbert, Eric Higgins, Ryan Ridenour, Shawn Harwell, Jeromy Straton, Jeff McCutcheon, Tim Dyer, David Swann, Kris Devine, Michael Placencia, Hamel Reinmiller, and John Jacobsen; and

WHEREAS, Inspirational leadership was the hallmark of head coach Bob Ledbetter, who kept his charges on course in their tireless pursuit of perfection, and he was ably supported throughout the season by assistant coaches Ken Cook, Steve Lineweaver, Al Rushing, Joel Berry, Tom Rapp, Robert Drake, Fred Maples, Jim Cain, Ron Cullum, and Bo Jones; and

WHEREAS, Spirited support from the sidelines was given by cheerleaders Laura Samartin, Janine Bernasek, Chelsea Gamble, Alison Hall, Melanie Hinsken, Brendi Houston, Rachel Pekowski, Allison Moore, Amy Schorn, Jeni Strickland, Callie Hoffman, Lynn Coakley, Ashley McNutt, Dedra Moffat, Kirsten Rhode, Rachel Samartin, Liberty Skelton, Deavon Moore, Robyn Barthelemy, Mandy Clayton, Maria Gallegos, Shilah Hudson, Emily Lawson, Amanda McCutcheon, and Kelsey Roberts, and mascot Susan Farkas; and

WHEREAS, Over the past seven seasons Southlake Carroll teams have an astounding won‑lost record of 97 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie, including a state record of 61 consecutive regular season victories, and have truly established the Dragons as a football dynasty; and

WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young athletes and their coaches and staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students and faculty at Southlake Carroll High School and their many supporters in the community, and their exceptional accomplishments have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Bob Ledbetter and the Southlake Carroll High School Dragons on their undefeated season and UIL Class 3A state football championship; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the members of the team, coaching staff, school superintendents, and the principal, and that a copy be prepared for prominent display at Southlake Carroll High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
